GE "energy efficient" halogen bulbs NO LONGER made in China!
I was surprised when I spotted these at Wal-Mart today! I thought GE was no longer investing in new machinery for most products but rather import stuff from outside suppliers. Well here they are, the 43w bulb here was made in Hungary and features an European looking capsule made of quartz. The 72w bulb was made in Mexico with a presumely USA made capsule which looks similar to the capsules found in the Sylvania and Philips versions. I don't really like the latter capsules it looks too cheap but its good to see products leave China at least.

Cool! I've noticed that GE makes a good number of halogens in Hungary.

I still didn't see any decent energy-efficient halogens in my area. There are the Globe halogens but these are no more efficient than standard incandescents...

Vince you don't see the Sylvania halogen supersavers etc out there?

By the way the Mexican GE has the stretched filament inside the pinch seal just like the supersavers and ecovantages.

Cool find, Dave Very Happy I need to find them myself Razz

Are there any indication of date stamp of these bulbs?

I THINK I saw a few, but if I remember it was in a larger city. In smaller towns like the one I live in, products take more time to arrive on the shelves.

The Sylvania energy savers are getting common in the Toronto area...I think Lowe's and Loblaw's Grocery have started selling them. So far as for other brands I've seen the Globe ones, the Feit ones, and the Philips T shaped ones. No sign of the GE versions yet.

What is the most popular brand in Canada?

@rjluna yes they do have a date code. The one from Hungary was made 1/12. The one from Mexico is also 2012 but the month is done in dots so I don't know how to read these.
