Brand new Cooper Lighting-Utilitech Yardblaster!
I got this from Lowes, for FIVE BUCKS! VERY cheap for how much these usually cost. I am surprised this was that cheap. Especially at a Lowes.

It was the only one left and there was no price tag, I asked someone they looked it up and it said 4.99. And I scanned it on the self-checkout.

The FUNNY thing, is on the label (viewable in this picture) It says "Use only 70 watt H38 HPS lamp"
Isn't H38 the code for 100 watt Mercury Vapor?? The other one said the right thing but this one is odd.

Yes. Has the same typo too. BTW, this is a Cooper, not a Utilitech. See it on cooper's site here

Yep, H38 is 100W mercury vapour. I assume the bucket is 70W HPS, in that case S62 is the proper ANSI code, not H38 XD.

I know this is cooper. On my lit picture I put "Cooper Utilitech" On it. The box I got this from says "Utilitech" on it so that's why I put that.

I really wonder why this was five bucks. Michael, how much was yours? Maybe they were wanting to get rid of these so that's why it was so cheap...

I'm guessing it was a mistake, I once got a flashlight that should of sold for $20 for just $9.99 at Lowes. Razz And no I didn't say anything.
streetlight98   [Apr 04, 2012 at 08:40 PM]
Mine (now Niall's) costed $15 (I actually got it for free since i used a giftcard). It was missing the brackets and lamp, but i got a Sylvania lamp for free since the label on it said it was supposed to come with one. The light i had bought was a floor model so it was missing the hardware. Lowe's marks their stuff pretty low when they want to get rid of it. BTW, utilitech isn't a real company. It's basically the Lowe's version of Walmart's "GreatValue". So this was entirely cooper, not Utilitech.
LilCinnamon   [Apr 05, 2012 at 01:38 PM]
Actually "Utilitech" Is a cooper brand. Probably the brand for selling at retail stores, but it IS A cooper brand. I look at the box and it says "Distributed by Cooper Lighting" Even though the brand of the box is Utilitech. Not sure why they do that but Utilitech might be a brand just like "Crouse Hinds" was or "Streetworks" or "Lumark"
gailgrove   [Apr 05, 2012 at 04:48 PM]
I think Lowes pays Cooper to make the "Utilitech" brand name just for them.
LilCinnamon   [Apr 05, 2012 at 06:24 PM]
Why do you think that? It is possible though... Cause I don't see that anywhere else.
streetlight98   [Apr 05, 2012 at 07:34 PM]
Utilitech is a Lowe's name; it's not a Cooper Brand. Consumer Products/Regent is the Cooper retail name. They likely do what Niall mentioned. They pay other companies to have the Utilitech name on the box. The MH light I have was Utilitech branded, but it was made by some chinese company. Utilitech photocells are made by Touch-and-Glow, it says so right on the PC casing. Those LED lamps that were utilitech branded I bought a while back are actually made by Panasonic.
LilCinnamon   [Apr 05, 2012 at 07:44 PM]
I wonder why Lowes does that. Why would they do that? I see no reason to have a totally different brand for all products.
streetlight98   [Apr 05, 2012 at 07:54 PM]
I'm not sure. Around 2010, Lowe's started clearing out all the "Regent" and "Consumer Products" Cooper stuff and Utilitech stuff started appearing on the shelves. They have a wider selection of PCs than most places do though. They have the 120-277v Intermatics, (a few 120V ones too), 120-277v Touch-and-Glow PCs, and 120V clear tough-and-glow PCs.

Where did you get your light from? Lowes?

Lowes seems to sell a lot more cooper stuff while Home Depot sells Lithonia Lighting. If Lowes were to sell cobraheads they would most likely sell OVZ's while the Home Depot would most likely sell 115's.
streetlight98   [Apr 05, 2012 at 11:11 PM]
I believe one of them sold lowbays and highbays at once. Shocked I'd like to start seeing cobraheads in the box stores, but they'd probably be VERY pricey.
gailgrove   [Apr 05, 2012 at 11:30 PM]
I can't really picture them selling very well...
Tmcdllr   [Apr 05, 2012 at 11:44 PM]
Lots of stores do this sort of thing, they will buy or have made products from one or several manufacturers and put their own brand name on it, a brand name that will be specific to that chain of stores. Lowe's does this with Utilitech, Wal-Mart does this with Great Value, Sears does this with Kenmore, and even Home Depot does this with their Hampton Bay line. The nice part about this is sometimes you can get really good quality stuff at a cheaper price because you are not also paying for the major brand name, such as Cooper or Regent, etc. But also sometimes you end with with just junk too.
streetlight98   [Apr 05, 2012 at 11:45 PM]
I noticed at Lowe's the fluorescent stuff is still marked as Cooper Metalux and isn't under Utilitech.
LilCinnamon   [Apr 06, 2012 at 04:07 PM]
I wonder why this thing has the photocell it does, why not have the twist-lock photocell? This had the photocell socket more like built in, and you can take the socket out and replace it but it's much different. I thought they could fit a twist lock on the top.
gailgrove   [Apr 06, 2012 at 07:47 PM]
Because button PCs are cheaper, plus the average homeowner doesn't know how/when to replace a twist lock PC, that way they are more likely to replace the fixture.

I believe that Home Depot sold highbays around ten years ago, if I remember correctly it was a aluminium reflectored Cooper Steeler in HPS.

Rona here sold HID ballasts in the past, I have a few I picked up when they were clearing them out for $12-20 a pop. Very Happy
Tmcdllr   [Apr 06, 2012 at 09:30 PM]
^You can still get highbays, wallpacks, etc at Home Depot or Lowe's, but not in the stores, they have to be ordered online or special ordered at the store. I'm pretty sure they both carry lithonia so if you wanted a Steeler highbay you could get it.
