Miniature version?
This 12v, 50w halogen lamp was in an outdoor floodlight that uplights a tree in my front yard. Somehow the moisture & heat destroyed the dichroic coating so it's just a ribbed glass 'reflector' now, just like my dining room lamps (which also have halogen bulbs in them). Interestingly, the 12v lamp failed by becoming disconnected from its supports (the whole filament was loose inside the capsule) - perhaps someone (or an animal) whacked the fixture.

I have has some that did the same after about 10 years of operation. Some closed units have a nice pile of flakes in the housing as the coating disintegrates.

You are correct - I installed those Halogenas when I moved in in November 1999 and they've been there ever since. I don't use the lights much unless I have company over and they're almost always dimmed. I prefer the double-ended halogens to the single-ended capsule design.

this is the fixture that looks kinda like a cluster of Highbay's.

I wonder how this would look if someone remote ballasted it and used low watt HID inside.

I thought that halogen lamp on the right was a BT merc. Shocked

I changed out the clear GE 60w lamps in that chandelier with these Halogenas when I first moved in, in 1998. That was exactly the idea - to mimic a HID high-mast cluster.

I always though these looked like mini highbays. Razz

Yeah, nothing beats clear filament lighting over a dining room table IMO. Otherwise, I prefer fluorescents LOL. Except maybe over a bathroom mirror...
