Newest Addition: A GE M-1000!
Got this baby today, from a parking lot that used to be FILLED with them. They already trashed a lot of them but three were still up.

There was a team there demolishing a whole building next to Colorado Mills that used to be an Auto Dealership, there was a BUNCH of these M-1000's up behind the area.

They still had three of them up since all the others were demolished and trashed. But I went there today and then they were nice to take it down for me! So I got this thing, I didn't get the other two though, those will just get trashed like the others.

I got a nice score though!!

I'd go with the 1000w merc lamp like Alex sudgested. My guess is that the MH lamp either needs to be "broken in" more so it ignites easier or you have a 700 watt ballast that can't ignite the 1000w lamp. You'll need a 1000w MV lamp to find out for sure though....

Well there's a GE 700w on fleabay for $70 Shocked Rolling Eyes but I would wait before getting one, I think around a month or two ago the was a 700w Westy for 9 bucks and there were probably some left.

Awesome, a classic beast!
LilCinnamon   [Feb 10, 2012 at 03:42 PM]
This thing isn't as heavy and big as you think, it's pretty small for a large fixture. It has the SAME top housing as the original M-400! And it's three feet long just like the OV-25 or M-400.

It's technically an M-400 with a bigger reflector and different door, making it an M-1000.

I am surprised this isn't heavy.

Dimensions and weight?
LilCinnamon   [Feb 10, 2012 at 05:43 PM]
Like I said it is 3 feet long and has the same top housing design as the Original M-400.

And this probably weighs about... 40 to 50 pounds. I guess.
joe_347V   [Feb 10, 2012 at 07:17 PM]
That's around the same size as my Powerlite B2255, and I guess if mine had a 1kW ballast it would probably be around 50 pounds too. Shocked

The M-1000 has a bigger reflector and refractor though.

I got two more M-1000's, but the surprise was that the OTHER two lights didn't have the original ballast like the first! And the line volts of the replacement ballasts are 480 volts so the parking lot was wired for 480, which means my other light was probably a 240x480 ballast.
joe_347V   [Feb 11, 2012 at 01:10 AM]
Shocked Shocked Do they have any stickers inside and are the replacement ballasts multitap?
LilCinnamon   [Feb 11, 2012 at 01:14 AM]
One of the ballasts had a sticker on it and no, they are only 480 volts, single tap. And they are Magnetek ballasts. I just need a 1000 watt 120 volt ballast and I will be set! Except all of them on Ebay are 80 dollars and I can't afford it.

It's still weird that the first one I got had the ORIGINAL ballast but the other two on the pole didn't!
joe_347V   [Feb 11, 2012 at 01:19 AM]
Yeah, the 1kW ballasts on eBay currently are quite expensive but I have seen them go for less before. Were the replacement ballasts for 1kW MV or MH?
TiCoune66   [Feb 11, 2012 at 01:21 AM]
So you have THREE M1000s?? Wow Shocked Shocked

I have only seen two M1000s in my whole life, and they are FAR away from me! I wish I had one in my area I could get.
LilCinnamon   [Feb 11, 2012 at 01:35 AM]
They were both, MV and MH. So MH ballasts. I dunno what I am gonna do with the ballasts, but I am going to keep both M-1000's and trade in an empty M-1000 for another light or just give it away.

Vince if you really want an M-1000 you can have one of them. xD
TiCoune66   [Feb 11, 2012 at 02:00 AM]
Shocked I bet shipping would be expensive as heck! I would love to have one, but I'll have to check if I can afford it.
gailgrove   [Feb 11, 2012 at 02:03 AM]
I might be interested in one as well, but shipping would likely cause me to faint! And your going to keep two? I would just give two away if I where you, you only really need one, I would happily give away one of my B2255s if someone wanted it, then I would have more space.
LilCinnamon   [Feb 11, 2012 at 02:09 AM]
I would be giving it EMPTY, so it shouldn't cost that much. Plus I don't really have a box I could use...

I am going to keep two, I am going to keep one of them original, If I can somehow light it up that would be great. Then I am gonna get a replacement 1000 watt ballast for the other and restore it. And the third I will be willing to give away empty. Without the ballast it weights about... 20-30 pounds?

And Niall.. How about I trade you one of these M-1000s for one of your B2255's? It would be cool for me to have a sylvania/powerlite fixture, especially those. xD
gailgrove   [Feb 11, 2012 at 02:11 AM]
Alright, I will have to think about that one, I would likely ship the B2255 without the ballast as well since the ballast is a replacement anyways. It will still be quite a bit to ship. Shocked I'll PM you!
LilCinnamon   [Feb 11, 2012 at 02:23 AM]
I don't have a spare ballast, I have some spare 400 watt HPS ballasts but that's it. And they are AEL, But I am not sure if they work.
gailgrove   [Feb 11, 2012 at 02:33 AM]
I could ship it, but it would end up costing more. What's your ZIP code? You can PM it to me if you want, my postal code is L6S 2E1 in case you want to get an idea on the shipping price.
LilCinnamon   [Feb 11, 2012 at 02:36 AM]
Mine is 80421, and for shipping I won't have you pay for the shipping at all for this getting there. For Tony and mines trade we didn't pay each others shipping we did our own.
