Nice! Welcome to the Gallery of Lights! I'm Mike. Cool here in Rhode Island i've never seen a drop lens shoe box but i see their pretty common up in Ontario, mostly powerlite designs.

Most of the shoe box lights around here are gone Sad

Yeah, I heard Brampton is replacing them rapidly during the past couple of years.

There were 2 that were removed around a year ago near where I live. Now they are on concrete poles with Cooper OVX's on them

And over the past 5 years, there has been no consistency with the replacements in Brampton (the height of pole and length of tapered aluminarms used will vary). As of this response, the city is using the highest pole commonly used for 150W applications, and full on 6' arms to replace any worn out light. Something about a new standard for maximum distribution now being implemented...

It's the same here in Markham, they seem to rotated randomly between using 8' and 6' tapered e arms for spot replacements. Most of the older poles here use 8' tapered e arms.

I don't get the City of Brampton's replacement policy at all. A small residential street doesn't need a 32.5 foot pole and 8 foot arm... If they are so insistent on replacing TwistPaks everywhere, I'd rather see them do this. I think they are 25 foot poles and have 4 ft arms, much better than what they are currently doing.

a lot of our freeways are only lit with 25ft poles and 8ft arms. Razz Laughing the new tall davit poles are probably 30-35ft tall.

long time Nial! (gailgrove). if that pole in your google link got knocked down they'd replace it with a 32' pole & 8' arm LOL. They used to try to match sizes to the surrounding area, before 2007...
gailgrove   [Aug 23, 2013 at 09:56 PM]
I know, having lights that size installed is wishful thinking. If I remember correctly, the last TwistPak I saw installed was in 2006.
joe_347V   [Aug 23, 2013 at 11:33 PM]
They replaced three Twistpaks here back in 2009 but instead of putting up a 30' pole they capped the old 15'? poles and installed AEL 115s on short upsweep arms.
gailgrove   [Aug 23, 2013 at 11:35 PM]
Interesting, got any pictures of that setup?
joe_347V   [Aug 23, 2013 at 11:45 PM]
I don't have pics but here's the streetview.
gailgrove   [Aug 23, 2013 at 11:50 PM]
That's actually pretty good looking, doesn't look as good as a Twistpak, but I could live with that.
joe_347V   [Aug 23, 2013 at 11:58 PM]
Yeah, the poles look like they were originally like this instead of retrofitted from twistpaks.

On the other hand, there's a apartment at 404/Sheppard that removed their twistpak tops, capped the ballast housing and mounted floodlights below. Rolling Eyes Sorry no streetview or pics though.

This shoebox has been removed and replaced by a short pole with a 6' e arm AE 115
