Yes like Gullwhiz said we have both, most work at night but we also have the day servicers who can gain access to things the night servicers can not. They also do some of the work in places where it's not safe to go at night
Yes there are some PAL (Private Area LIghting) which lights up peoples property homes (if the customer asks and leases it) and private commercial places....at night some commercial places are closed and have fences in the private areas and locked up, so there is nobody at night to open the fences for the linemen to get in, so there's day time to do that!!!
To my knowledge, Cooper is still running a factory in Granby, Québec. And the OVC is the canadian OVZ. Unless the factory closed? Then we most likely import OVZs from USA.
Just a wild guess, but Companion? It was the OVS's companion from what told me. His mom installed lots of streetlights in Southeastern Mass and East Providence, so his mom knows the models fairly well. I'll have to ask him if his mom kept any spec sheets. His mom is retired now, and she installed lots of OVS and this light.
Maybe it stood for Canada, but they were also sold here with the OVS. He just replied via email saying:
"she doesn't remember if she has any specs, but she's gonna look. If she finds any, I'll get 'em to you. As for the OVC, it was only made in 50-150w high pressure sodium. Not sure what "C" stood for. It was made with the Crouse-Hinds line as a partner for the OVS. The idea was to have a lower cost fixture by using a smaller cast. The OVC used the current cooper reflector, but the OVS and OVM had the old reflectors. hope this information helps you Mike."
That's most of the email. the rest is about his silverliner and the LPS light he's getting me.
Well here we use the OVZ now, I think the OVC was discontinued before 2002 since I have an OVZ from then. I would also guess the the "C" in OVC stood for Canada, I'm pretty sure all Cooper lights are now made in Mexico though I think my 2003 OVZ was made in Canada.
It's the same for fluorescent fixtures too, the older Cooper and Lithonia fixtures were made in Canada and with decent ballasts but the new ones from the box store are made in Mexico and come with off brand ballasts.
Older stuff here was made in the USA too. It's all outsourced because of the Noth American Free Trade Agreement. (NAFTA). If that was never signed, companies wouldn't have gone to countries with cheaper labor.
