Stem Mounted Wraparounds Some of the original classrooms at my school still have the original ceiling and pendant stems. The pendant stems originally used to hold two lamp tandem louvered fixtures. I believe they were removed and replaced with the current wraparounds when the school went from T12 to T8. Ah cool! As I recall yours have mirrored reflectors too, right? Mine are white. Some have one lamp per section but most do have two lamps.

Yeah they have mirrored reflectors although they seem to be better built than what you described the ones at your school as lol. Maybe the older ones were better built. These actually have a set of unused outer socket positions so up to three lamps per section can used.

They're pretty neat fixtures but I wish they kept one room with louvers so I could how they looked back in the day. The remaining louvers got moved to the service hallways.

The outer socket positions are used for 2-lamp, with the center one unused. I suppose you could mod it for three lamps though, since I did that with the 2ft version I have that was single lamp like these.

Seems like either maintenance here dosen't latch the diffusers properly or these fixtures don't have tight enough latches. A bunch of diffusers in a different room fell down over a weekend.

These diffusers go on pretty tight, so most likely the maintenance guys just suck at putting them back on lol. The lip that holds them on is very small though. I've seen a couple wraps at school get ready to loose their diffusers but they were probably never put on right to begin with. With these, if the diffuser's not 100% engaged, it'll slowly wiggle loose to the point where it ends up hinging on one side.

Yeah I noticed a lot of these fixtures didn't have the diffusers on properly. Maintenance caem by and picked up the broken diffusers but I doubt they will replace them with new ones. Since the mounts on these can swivel I suppose a gust of wind from a nearby open window could have swung the row of fixtures enough for a diffuser to fall down.

Found a picture of the original lights. It's a from the same building but was taken from a different classroom.

Meant to reply to this, yeah I believe the caption said the picture was taken in 1982. Found out some more about the original louvered lights. They in this catalogue (page 126) and appears to be a Day Brite. The design of the fixture matches exactly with the ones still left around the building and even the stem mounts on the page match. Anyway the catalogue only lists a slimline model but the ones we used were RS so I guess there was also a RS/PH model made.

Update: Unfortunately all of these along with the ceiling is gone. They put in a new drop ceiling over the summer break and installed all new lighting...LED lensed troffers.

Kinda more a fan of the classic continuous row setup on pendant stems although I've seen new LED installs like that so maybe continuous row lighting is becoming more popular again. One of the Best Buys renovated over the summer and replaced all the 320W PSMH highbays with continuous row LED.

Yeah continuous rows on downrods is just awesome. Even modern fixtures look cool like that. I like downrods though. I've seen suspended fixtures hanging with wire instead of a solid pipe and it doesn't look the same to me. I've even seen lights in finished areas suspended with chains and think that looks silly too.

Yeah as meh as I am about LED replacing everything, I do like the return to continuous row lighting in some of the new LED replacement installs.

I agree with you on the downrods too, finished areas don't look right with fixtures suspended on chains or cables. I don't mind chains or cables in unfinished areas though.
