This is an LFE pedestrian signal at a crosswalk for a shopping mall. There are 5 Incandescent LFE 12-8-8 signals here too. The pedestrian signal for the side where im standing is an Eagle durasig.
Wow why is it so high? People won't even see it lol. Here they're like 6ft or 7ft high or something like that. I'm short so they look tall anyways but there's not that much height difference between me and the ped signals here. I gues it cuts back on vandalism. No vandalism to the signals here though. I've seen the poles and signal equipment cases get spray painted though or get a bunch of stupid bumper stickers on them.
Ahh, cool that you got a picture of these. And yeah since Vaughan retrofitted their signals to LED in mid 2013. These are the only incandescent signals in the GTA.
Ahh I see. I thought maybe this one was higher for a special reason. I know sometimes they'll "adapt" their ways if there's a builing awning or something in the way.
These are still there but I think some of the lights in the vehicle signals got LEDs, probably because they don't carry incandescent bulbs anymore on the truck.
Yeah I seen one of the LFE's got a new LED Green and Red. I wonder if they have replaced the Pedestrian Incandescent signals modules at all over the past few years. Also I think the mall might be the one that maintains the crosswalk. If it were Mississauga it probably would have been long gone by now.
Yeah joe_347v pointed it out to me a few weeks ago, I went for myself and noticed too. Not sure if its a temporary project, and/or that there will be new signals installed once the work is completed.
I saw that yesterday too. Except they put two streetlights now. The streetlights are not decorative like the poles though and ave regular photocells instead of antenni. And by not decorative I mean not black
I was at Square One on Sunday and managed to snap a quick pic of the newly installed signals. The new ones still have the 3rd signal head on the side of the pole.
Yeah Ive been over there quite a bit over the last few weeks. The only big change is that they added a light to the other pole. I had a feeling that there was no chance they would put the Incandescent signals back up.
That's what I figured too. Even when you posted this pic 4 years ago I felt like they were already running on borrowed time. I think the only incandescent signals left in the GTA now are a few amber lights scattered around Toronto and a few beacons in Toronto that are still incandescent.
I wonder if they still make incandescent signal bulbs, I saw them at Restore around a year ago which makes me think even the contractors are getting rid of their stock of them.
One of the old signals had a green LED module installed too sometime in the recent years.
I doubt that they make them anymore, not even Aliston is using Incandescent bulbs anymore. That reminds me, a bunch of intersections got brand new LED Fortran signals in the Summer. Not sure if anything has changed in the downtown part.
Yeah I think I remember noticing one of the old Square One signals had a green LED in it. Hmm, at this point it'd probably be easier for them to spot replace with LED than to source some traffic signal incandescent bulbs.
I wonder if larger cities that still used a lot of incandescent like Ottawa (unless they changed out ot LED) still relamp burnt out signals instead of replaced with LED.
For all we know they may have been using the last of the incandescent stock from right when Mississauga converted to LED, and they may have finally used up whats leftover.
I think Ottawa just uses LED replacements now. Theres some CGEs with LED's in them that were incandescent only couple of years ago.
Ahh figures, even when I was in Ottawa in 2016 I was a bit surprised to see a lot of incandescent still in use. I think Montreal got rid of most of their incandescent CGEs around 2015-2016 too.
@mike thats about the standard height for the pedestrian signals. Some of them are mounted a bit lower though
