Nice! I wish York Region kept their CGE hanger signals when they went to LED.

I think I see a Fortran hanger signal next to the Kennedy sign. Razz
Model25FanForever   [May 20, 2014 at 10:59 AM]
Yeah it is and it was recent too I think. The signals on the side you can't see are all CGE hangers. Laughing There are 4 fortran ped signals at this intersection that are countdown as well.

I was shocked to see this spring, this intersection is slated for a "signal replacement/upgrade" according to Brampton's website. They've been laggy getting these kinds of projects done the year they're announced thanks to I say, her worship, mayor of brampton....... My old high school is at this intersection!
streetlight98   [May 22, 2014 at 02:54 AM]
Is it common for ped signals for face each other the way they do at this intersection? I've always seen them face away from eah other.
Model25FanForever   [May 22, 2014 at 11:51 AM]
Yeah I saw that too, it works perfectly fine. Yeah I know the name of that school Cool

It is common here but the way they have the pedestrian signals is all based on how the intersection was built and where the poles are. Intersections where they have the "yield" traffic islands more and likely have the signals facing away from each other. On a few rare occasions you get something like this Cool
streetlight98   [May 22, 2014 at 07:19 PM]
Hmm how come some of the ped there are two-section while others are single-section?
Model25FanForever   [May 23, 2014 at 02:23 AM]
The single ped signals replaced Incandescent two-sections. The double sections are either timers or non-timer if there is no timer it was a survivor of the mass changeover from Incandescent to LED but the bottom is disconnected. The one in the link I put, I have no clue its actually the only one of those that got the bottom removed here and still using the old top section. The single sections are no longer installed for new intersections. You can only see them on the bigger roads here at a few intersections that haven't gotten timers yet. They are only still installed new here at the highway ramps which are MTO owned.
streetlight98   [May 23, 2014 at 02:42 AM]
yeah here they all have to have timers at new intersections. I find them useless anyways becuse when the hand starts flashing, that means continue crossing if you've started but don't start crossing. And the hand flashes long enough to ensure that you make it across before the solid hand comes on so I see no point. And if an argument is made for the timer, than there's no need for the flashing hand. Just continue showing the man while the tmer is on and then go to the hand once the timer had stopped.

No one here uses the ped signals anyways. They either jay walk or cross at crosswalks without using the ped signals. I'm guilty of that myself. It's easier and faster to just use your own judgement and bolt across the road when there's a gap in traffic. You need to pay close attention when with a walk signal. So long as you're in a crosswalk, cars have to yield to peds regardless of what the ped signal reads.

A lot of hand symbols here have dead LEDs because they're always on because the ped signals are never used lol.
Model25FanForever   [May 23, 2014 at 10:37 AM]
Yeah they have proven them to cause more accidents because people are taking more risks now. I agree with you totally . I jay walk quite a bit too but within reason. Theres a intersection nearby me that has 2 of the walk hands are burned out already and and 2 faded timers and 1 burned out hand. They were installed in January
streetlight98   [May 23, 2014 at 11:08 AM]
Oh wow! sounds like some cheapo LED modules are being used up there lol. Here the timers are off when they'renot used (so they're always off) except on busy, busy roads that automatically cycle the ped signals too.
Model25FanForever   [May 23, 2014 at 05:18 PM]
Ive seen more LED module burnouts this year than since LED was retrofitted in Brampton. Its the newer ones that keep burning out. Yeah those timers are only causing poor judgement around here
joe_347V   [May 25, 2014 at 05:20 AM]
Yeah, I sometimes jaywalk too but I try not to impend traffic by crossing when my walk sign isn't on.

I wonder if so many LEDs burned out this year because of the extra long and cold winter we had.
Model25FanForever   [May 29, 2014 at 04:01 PM]
Yeah, even though pedestrian always have the right of way I don't ever want to take advantage to it while j walking.

I think its possible we hit some absolutely frigged temperatures

Anchor bolts, rebar, and handwell silos have been dumped at Sandalwood & Richevale, Kennedy & Richevale, and I assume here too (Kennedy and Wexford/Notre Dame).
Model25FanForever   [Nov 12, 2014 at 08:42 PM]
Why must they replace them Sad
Those are all good intersectons with CGE's and OV-15's. They are in really good shape too.

I never knew about the sandalwood and richvale. I never saw that on the 2014 construction listing
m@   [Nov 12, 2014 at 10:31 PM]
I saw the Richevale's marked for upgrade in the online listing randomly one day. I agree, the concrete bases are all in tact and not even leaning like usual replacement candidates. Sandalwood/Richevale set up looks the most beat IMO though.

I wonder what factor is the most worrisome for the city to justify these replacements.
Model25FanForever   [Nov 13, 2014 at 01:12 AM]
Notre Dame and Kennedy is probably the cleanest old CGE intersection. I don't think the Kennedy ones are necessary. The sandalwood one has lost all its Eagle Mark IV's and eagle equipment now except for the 3rd signal on the north east corner. Except its a newer eagle than the mark IV's. Maybe thats why they left them as CGE's hangers. There isn't much good at the sandalwood and richvale intersection anymore. There 2 hanger signals that are neat and the R37 with no PC.

I remember when there were 4 R37's at sandalwood & richevale with no PC's, long time ago.

UPDATE: a kabota was plopped at sandalwood & richevale, utility companies marked their territory with their little flags and spray paint. Winter arrived, and snow covered everything, then it got warm, snow melted, and the kabota vanished. Materials still dumped here untouched. Rolling Eyes For some reason new signal installation often starts when winter begins in this city. The worst of winter begins now.
