Preparing for the Hurricane Sandy! PLUS PEPCO RANT!
Yep our brand new generator we can and shall use if [url=http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-3724] "Reliable BGE" [/url] could not resist Sandy....

Generator is STRONGLY ADVISED for the [url=http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-12150] "Unreliable PEPCO" [/url]

How unreliable is PEPCO? [url=http://www.wjla.com/articles/2012/07/pepco-most-hated-company-in-america-comes-under-fire-for-outages-77648.html] See the answer here [/url]

PEPCO is so much disliked there are even groups trying to do something about it such as
-[url=http://www.packuppepco.com/] PACK UP PEPCO! [/url]
-[url=http://wearemoco.org/ai1ec_event/powerupmontco-discussion-with-energy-attorney-stanley-balis/?instance_id=] Powerupmontco [/url]
-[url=http://mocopublicpower.org/] http://mocopublicpower.org/ [/url] (this page stated that PEPCO is Anti-American) <SHOCK!>

Glad I am under BGE, unfortunately Felipe lives about 12-14 poles away from the BGE territory line, causing him to be powered by PEPCO, but fortunately his part of PEPCO seems more reliable than most areas of PEPCO. Sadly my area seems less reliable due to the forest I live in, but BGE action is much quicker to fix!

One of my friends was out of power in PEPCO land for 15 days from our June 29, 2012 Derecho! That is ridiculous!

FGS   [Oct 29, 2012 at 10:11 PM]
Don't hold your breath. Will be a while before that happens. Razz

Well, it seems that the Toronto area will get the remnants of Sandy around evening-overnight. Stay safe you guys.

I don't think we're going to lose power but if I do, I'll update using my phone.
streetlight98   [Oct 29, 2012 at 10:17 PM]
hmm. haven't lost power yet but the radio signal is horrendous and the radio station is the next city over. Shocked TV picture is occasionally a bit weird too and sometimes the sound goes out. the radio signal is getting worse and worse as i type this and the wind is picking up speed quickly. I opened my window to see (my window is covered in rain) and the wind was very strong. The air pressure became instanty stronger in my room! It actually looks liek the clouds are thinning though...

ComEd sent a ton of crews to assist BGE.
GullWhiz   [Oct 29, 2012 at 10:29 PM]
Did you know that ComEd is owned by the same company that owns BGE?
gramirez2012   [Oct 29, 2012 at 10:30 PM]
Yep!
FGS   [Oct 29, 2012 at 10:45 PM]
BGE don't need those extra crews. Pepco desperately need them. And BGE need to buy out Pepco and fix their messes.
GullWhiz   [Oct 29, 2012 at 10:54 PM]
I know, but PEPCO has too much ego and won't admit their issues and just want money!

From my experience living totally off the grid I will tell you that that looks like it's going to be pretty noisy and a bit of a gas guzzler. Certainly still better than nothing
One piece of advice I can give you if you're without grid power for several days/weeks since like I said I live off the grid is that refrigerators/freezers will do fine as long as they aren't opened for up to 24 hours, however they do well with about 4 hours of power a day (I'd reccomend like 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the evening).
And yours is also certainly big enough to run a washer/dryer and if necessary, bigger power tools such as skillsaws, etc.
Might not be a bad idea to stock up on some gas though.
But yeah, I personally think it's nice to have a generator handy even if you live somewhere with grid power, especially in areas prone to large natural diasters like hurricanes and tornadoes.
Are you going to try running anything like HID lights on this?
FGS   [Oct 30, 2012 at 02:04 AM]
Try the 1500w incandescent lamp on this thing.
Antstar85   [Oct 30, 2012 at 02:36 AM]
Here at WMECO, we are at 12,000 out in our territory but I know CL&P is at 475,000 and NSTAR is at about 140,000. I was at work from 6am to 10pm today and will be back on a 6 am tomorrow.
joe_347V   [Oct 30, 2012 at 02:58 AM]
There's around 6500 people on Toronto Hydro without power, I'm on Power Stream and still have power, fortunately.
A_lights   [Oct 30, 2012 at 03:00 AM]
Got windy here in Rochester MI, 40+ MPH winds here...probably nothing compared to out there. .its been raining all day though
GullWhiz   [Oct 30, 2012 at 03:01 AM]
BGE right now has 198,502 out, but restored 44,525 since the Storm Operations began. I still have power and haven't lost it.......yet
FGS   [Oct 30, 2012 at 03:24 AM]
Still got power here. It flickered for a while but went steady. For now...
GullWhiz   [Oct 30, 2012 at 01:02 PM]
We have not lost power.......(psst psst, FGS will lose power soon because a BIG GULL "accidentally" bumped Felipe's transformer...)
streetlight98   [Oct 30, 2012 at 02:03 PM]
Well, i never lost power. NGrid's outages peaked at just over 150,000 but last i heard that number went way down overnight.
FGS   [Oct 30, 2012 at 03:29 PM]
Never lost power. And I'm eating fried gull wings. Razz Laughing
joe_347V   [Oct 30, 2012 at 10:30 PM]
I never lost power too, although some people around me lost power a few times last night.
