Area Lighting Research LC-208-277 Photocontrol
I bought this photocontrol today at Lowes for about $10. Im suprised to see them selling these 208-277 volt ALR's. They used to have those multivolt Touch And Glow photocontrols. I think they won't be selling these for a long time because a lot of people might not realize they are only for 208-277 volt applications. Therefore, Lowes will probably have a lot of returns on these.

Hmm. I'm wonderign if Lowe's got these by mistake. Here they sell blue 120-277v PCs, short clear 120v, and short clear 208-277v PCs. They sometimes have a few Intermatic 120v and 120-277w PCs....

I would imagine 120-277V PCs would be a better choice for Lowe's to stock. Over here 120v only PCs are commonly sold at home centres.

I don't think they got these by mistake. It looks like Lowes switched to a different brand cause all the photocontrols they sell at the lowes stores i've been into, are made by Area Lighting Research now.

Is ALR good stuff? I haven't been in Lowe's in a while so i'll have to check it out. Surprised

ALR photocontrols seem to be really good. They make electronic ones but i haven't ordered any before. I did buy some electronic ones on ebay actually. And they seem like very good quality.

Is this thermal?
HPSM250R2   [Jan 17, 2012 at 11:25 PM]
Yes it is thermal. I don't really like thermal photocontrols. I prefer electronic. But i never had a maroon colored ALR photocontrol before so i bought this. Even though its totally useless to me cause its 208-277 volts. But i can use it as a shorting cap though Very Happy
streetlight98   [Jan 17, 2012 at 11:36 PM]
Yeah. I don't like thermal PCs that much either. i like electromagnetic relay PCs.
HPSM250R2   [Jan 18, 2012 at 12:49 AM]
Me too. But not many companies make them anymore. Pretty much just companies in china that make them now. Fisher Pierce used to make electromagnetic photocontrols and they are my favorite electromagnetic photocontrols. But i like electronic ones a lot too.

Photocells belong in the Gear Category, not Misc, moving it
HPSM250R2   [Feb 03, 2012 at 11:57 PM]
Sorry Embarrassed I wasn't sure what category to put them in. I'll put photocells in the gear category from now on.

It's fine, you weren't the only one either... Cool I only made the comment to alert EVERYONE...not just you! Enjoy the page!

Hmm. I checked and the local Lowe's here doesn't carry these. They still carry what I stated above.
HPSM250R2   [Feb 04, 2012 at 05:00 AM]
Hmm, I guess not all Lowes carry the same items. You could probably buy them from Lowes online.
GullWhiz   [Feb 04, 2012 at 01:10 PM]
not all stores carry same stuff.....I worked in Target, not all Target carry same stuff either....it depends on the demand of areas, depends on the needs, it's a marketing thing...
streetlight98   [Jan 20, 2013 at 06:31 PM]
well, i started to see these here now.
HPSM250R2   [Jan 20, 2013 at 07:12 PM]
Yeah and everytime I go to lowes and look at photocontrols and light fixtures, I see the whole shelf of these are opened or out of their packaging. They should have never started selling these at Lowes because people buy these not realizing that they are only for 208-277 volts and install them on their light, and when it doesnt work, they return them. They should sell blue multivolt ALR's.
streetlight98   [Jan 05, 2014 at 12:51 AM]
I noticed this has an outside glued window like the 80s Fisher Pierce units?
HPSM250R2   [Jan 05, 2014 at 01:48 AM]
Yeah these solid-color thermal ALR's have the glued-in window. The electronic ALR's have the slide-in type of windows.
streetlight98   [Jan 05, 2014 at 02:28 AM]
ahh. are these the hard plastic or the more common softer/flexible plastic.
