Lit with an older ED23.5 Philips lamp, nearly no blackening. Makes the grass look very nice but that's about it lol. Makes me look like Shreck and since it's clear there's more glare. I left the clear lamp in though.
Mine (a 175w 90s ElectriPak) makes grass and trees look nice with the clear lamp (the only two MV lamps I have are clear) but wood looks greenish of course...blue 55 gallon drums look purple, (as do those blue Carlon electrical junction boxes). With a 175w MH lamp that amazingly strikes up on that HX ballast, colors look much better and it's a LOT brighter! I left the MV in mine though and haven't lit it in months to be honest! With a diffuser the glare wasn't too bad but when I junked the broken, taped-up diffuser it became a glare bomb like no other!
Yeah coated lamps are a lot easier on the eyes. I actually prefer coated MV lamps, and coated lamps in general. yeah once in a while i can get a Mh to strike on a MV ballast.
Me too! I've never owned a coated lamp, of any phosphor type, (MV) although I have a 400w coated MH and a 1000w one too but the latter I've never lit as I don't have the ballast...will a 400w CWA one work for a short test run?
I don't know if I prefer one over the other....I just like MV Period lol. though no other light source creates that 5700K Blue-Green glow of clear mercs. they're pleasant to drive under.
Thanks! I do too but prefer the /DX lamp. I can't mount this light though since it's smaller than my cobraheads so a cobrahead can't fit where I'm storing this. So if I mounted this, I'd be down one storage spot. So this light won't see much use right now lol.
Yeah this isn't as bad as a yardblaster though since the thicker refractor has actual prisms that direct the light downward. Yardblaster diffusers just have ribs that really serve no purpose lol
Yeah clear mercs are definitely one of the more unique light sources out there. I prefer /DX mercs though for the better color rendering and more light output. /C mercs are my favorite though. My only /C is a NOS 1967 400W cleartop Sylvania (quite a lamp I must say!)
