Cree 9W LED
|
Found this at my local HD today for $15 (cheaper than the AmbientLED equivalent), it's the newly released Cree LED lamp. There were only two choices available at HD though, the 5000K 9W one shown in the pic, and a 2700K 6w one.
These seem to have a more even and incandescent like distribution compared to the Philips LEDs. The smaller heatsink and centre placement of the LEDs mean that the socket side is lit too.
Interestingly, instead of a plastic globe, this uses a silicone coated shatter resistant glass globe like on the shatter-r-guard GE fluorescents.
It's also dimmable but it didn't dim that far on the old style incandescent dimmer I tested it with. I think my LED/CFL dimmer might dim it better.

Reminds me quite a bit of an inside frost incandescent...these would be even more appealing to the consumer if they start making them in an "A"-like shape like the "A" shaped CFLs...
These apparently have a 10 year (at 6 hours per day) warranty. The Philips bulbs also have a warranty, 6 years (at 3 hours per day). Not sure why the warranties are so different from each other as both are rated at 25000 hours. The Cree isn't Energy Star rated though so I can't use the $5 off coupon on it that Ontario Hydro is running till the end of April. Some of the Philips ones are though.
BTW, that flea market where i got the Hubbell Exit sign is reopened for the year! They're open on Sundays and maybe Saturdays... I don't think they're open on saturdays until the wamer weather... anyways, I'm going to ask my mom if she can take me there next weekend to see if those vintage fluorescent lamp cases are still there. If so, I may buy them and sell the cases that i don't have fixtures for here. I saw some 70s-80s looking GE cases last year on some shelves. i think F14s or F15s... I think some F40s too... in any case, there's no harm in going back to see if they're still there. The eixt sign was sold to me for $5 and the guy knew they retail for $80 so he may sell me the lamp cases at a steal just like with the exit sign, especially if the lamps haven't sold yet since i'm sure he wants to clear the space for other merchandise as do most liquidation/surplus sellers. The best part is that the place is literally down the street from me! So i could take my bike if i really wanted to, but I wouldn't want to balance fluorescent tube cases on the handlebars... Plus there's no sidewalk on the main road i need to take to get there so may parent's probably wouldn't let me go on my bike. I'll have to beg my mom to take me there instead of going to the restore hehe. at least we won't burn as much gas going to the liqudation flea market lol.
- The bathrooms are both entirely incandescent.
- My bedroom is LED
- My parent's room has one 13W helical CFL and one 40W GE softwhite lamp. (one CFL died)
- My brother's room has two 13W CFLs (one IS, other PS) and one 40W Philips soft white incandescent. (again, one CFL died)
- The hallway light has two 50W incandescent lamps
- The dining room and kitchen lights both have four 13W CFLs,
- the light over the sink either has two CFLs or one CFL and an incandescent
- the light over the stairs has 5 incandescents (either 40 or 60W...)
- three of the basement lights have 53W halogens (the other one still has its original 40W incandescent lamp)
- The garage keyless sockets both still have their original 90W Sylvania incandescents, the closet lights are all F20T12, the utility room is 2X F40T12 RS and the laundry room is 1X F40T12 PH and 1X F30T12 RS.
- The lights outside nest to the front door are 13W CFL, the other two at the garage door are 60W incandescent, and the light on the deck is 70W PSMH.
so my house is pretty well-rounded lol.
