Testing Some Mainlighters
I figured my GE turret could use some vintage GE lamps so I grabbed some Mainlighters when I was Restore recently. They're not exactly from when the fixture was made (I think they're from the 1970s) but they're still vintage so it matches the light a lot better than the modern Sylvania /CWPs I had in it earlier. I also like the vintage cool white more than the muddy looking modern cool white lamps and the greenish looking 34w cool white lamps (not that I would run 34w lamps in this light O_o)

One of the lamps had a missing insulator and a bend pin that I fixed with a cardboard washer and some crazy glue. Not exactly the best fix lol but since this light is a turret lume, the pin isn't stressed during lamp insertion/removal.

Looks neat! Yeah the current "cool white" lamps are nothing like the old ones.
From the thumbnail these look like /C50! Usually cameras register /CW as greenish or brownish.

Nice! They look like daylight tubes almost. Nice crisp light. Cool

Thanks, I heard they changed the phosphors in the 80s or something to increase efficiency so the colour probably did change slightly.

They did here, in the 90s and again after July of 2012.

I don't know about a change in standard cool white lamps but there were other cool white phosphors like CWP and CWX available. I'm sure the standard cool white lamps were probably altered a little over the years before they decided to start making totally different 4100K phosphors. I think daylights have changed since the 50s too. My 50s GE F14/D seems greener in appearance than my two Sylvania F14/Ds, granted the latter two are NOS.

Cool white has certainly changed over the last 20 years since EPACT, but I think before that it went virtually unchanged since it's overall debut in the 50s? or so.

I've heard daylight has changed a lot though, although here again I think it went virtually unchanged until EPACT, at least in 4ft and 8ft versions. I have yet to obtain any old-school daylight lamps though, my only ones are a Philips FC8T9/DX and some "Western Family" (Feit) 13w 6500K spiral CFLs.

Yeah I know Daylight was changed in the late 40s as they used to have beryllium phosphors which got banned in 1949 or so. Seems older daylights are pretty hard to come by. I don't think I have any old school daylight lamps either. Only cool white and warm white lol.

Yeah I knew /D changed then but I think it remained unchanged more or less until the 1990s, and is maybe still unchanged in lamps less than 4'.

Yeah I think the only change that affected all lamps is the change from beryllium phosphors to halophoshors in the late 40s. Aside from that I think /D stayed the same for the other lengths.

Yeah, you more or less confirmed my suspicion.
