End of an Era
The sunset marks the transition from day to night, however night will roll back over to day in a day/night cycle...

But for these MTO truss lights there is no more day, the sunset marks their impending removal and the transition to a new lighting system...the highmast lights which loom ominously above the truss lights currently avaiting their fate...

my area is remaining drop lens. I don't mind FCO, if you use it, instead of 100w drop lens every-other pole, use 70w FCO on every pole. More even light that way. My area did have 100w FCO MV M-250A2s in the 80's, but only some remain.

If you use 100w semi cutoff on every other pole and 70w FCO on every pole won't semi cutoff save energy then. Laughing Razz

Oh well, use drop lens then. Laughing Razz

If you go FCO you have to increase the wattage, that's one thing I don't like about them.
streetlight98   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:08 AM]
well, you don't have to, but the light won't reach as far down the road. It's too focused. Confused
GullWhiz   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:12 AM]
I am sorta glad that we have sag lens in my electrical company....they used FCO for about 5 years or so....then they must have somehow comprimised with IDA in MD allowing them to use Sag Lens.....Arizona IDA won't allow that!

So far I see Sag lens in MD, NJ, and Delaware in a few electrical companies.
streetlight98   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:15 AM]
Sag lenses don't look good on any lights really. FCO looks good on some like the M-250R2 and OVH and OVF, but sag doesn't appeal to be. If they used prismatic sag glasses, the light may be more evenly distibuted
gailgrove   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:18 AM]
Good on the M250R2? I would have to disagree, I think all lights look better with drop refractors but some do look okay with FCO lens.
GullWhiz   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:21 AM]
I think sag lens look the best on the GE M-400A3 and R3s......
streetlight98   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:24 AM]
The OVG and OVD look very odd with drop lens IMO. I haven't seen sag used in person yet.
gailgrove   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:24 AM]
I think the 115 looks good with a sag lens, but best with a drop refractor. Also it's an OVY with a drop lens, not a OVD.
GullWhiz   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:26 AM]
I actually also think 115s look good in FCO...it just seems to fit....(you gotta see them in PEPCO land in MD.....they are all PERFECTLY aligned, not pointed up...one of the FEW positives about PEPCO!)
streetlight98   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:32 AM]
Niall, a OVY with a drop lens is an OVD Razz
joe_347V   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:34 AM]
I've seen sag lenses in Ontario before but they're pretty rare.

GE M-400A3s, and Cooper OVFs look ok in FCO but I think 115s and OV 25s look better in drop lens.
gailgrove   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:34 AM]
And an OVD with a flat lens is a OVF ...
I know of one M400A3 at this exact interchange with a sag lens, it will be coming down.
streetlight98   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:42 AM]
if the fixture has a raised refractor (like the 115 or OVZ) it doesn't look good in FCO. FCO OVX look like floodlights. Laughing
joe_347V   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:44 AM]
Ugh FCO OVX looks incomplete to me.
streetlight98   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:48 AM]
same here.
gailgrove   [Aug 13, 2011 at 02:53 AM]
When tilted up it makes a great floodlight. Laughing
joe_347V   [Aug 13, 2011 at 03:08 AM]
They should sell them as next gen floodlights. Razz
