We lost power!
At about 11:48 AM on Memorial day, we in my area has lost power. It's a pretty rare thing to happen for us. I have looked online and saw over 600 customers in Howard County lost power, more than the other counties being supplied by BGE. We have called, they expect to restore it at 1:30 PM. Usually they go quicker than that. I will give updates on this....

The picture is one of our 2 emergency lights that turns on when power is not being supplied into the charger.

We don't lose power much either. One time was due to tornado storm last month. That got fixed in less than 5 hours. We lost power two or three times this year. One was due to heavy snow, one was lightning strike, last one was the tornado outbreak.

Oh BTW, Progress Energy RULES, BGE sucks! Razz

BGE did a great job...they always early! Power went back on at 1:03!!! FGS...lost power 3 times this year eh....this year this was the first power went out in 2011 longer than 1 hour! And 2nd power out......and I had about 3 or 4 black out in 4 years.....hmmmm explain it.....

Go to PEPCO you'll have 10 blackouts in a year or more.....its all over the news.....ask Dave DeSantis!!!

Here we have had no blackouts this year, they are very rare around here the last major one (more than an hour) was way back in 2003 (the great north eastern blackout)

I remember the Great North Eastern Blackout....I wasn't affected though.......but something did happen in College Park that day which was under PEPCO but probably not related.......

At least you guys don't lose power for stupid reasons!

Last year there's been a not so dangerous gas leak at a local propane supplier, which is kinda close to my neigbourhood, but not too much.

Well, to avoid any risk of explosion, Hydro-Québec decided to cut power to the whole neigbourhood instead of just killing the lines near Supérieur Propane! (That local propane supplier)

Cleeeeever, I lost power at 10pm, with no lights but the battery backup LED pilot light of my modem. Took me over 5 minutes just to stop freaking out LOL. It sounds ridiculous, but when you see absolutely NOTHING, it can be scary!

Turned out I found my vintage Ray-o-Vac flashlight in the middle of nowhere, which happened to be under my bed XD. I went outside to see what was happening, in a bigger street close to me to be exact, then I saw three firefighters trucks with all their beacon lights lit up, then a huge-@$$ row of cars, going to the complete darkness (and from the complete darkness) in the industrial park, in the complete opposite direction of the propane supplier's place.

Oh dude... that was my weirdest night of 2010! Shocked

Longest blackout in my area was the Great North Eastern Blackout back in '03.

Haven't had any blackouts here last year though but I remember seeing the lights flicker for a bit here.

Back in summer '05 I lost power because a truck clipped a power pole that feeds my neighborhood and they have cut the power to put a new one in.

My longest blackout in BGE was in Jan 1999 from a bad ice storm...was out of power for about 40 hours or so.......but I heard some PEPCO customers in that time was left without power for as long as 8 days!!!!! Also in this case it wasn't exactly a TOTAL blackout....some of the neighborhoods had power while others didn't......in my bedroom window view, there was 8 posttops ...7 MV and one HPS.....the 2 closest ones from my house didn't have power, but the other 6, all MV, had power.....it was about 5 blocks worth that had no power.....oh that same time....my first cobrahead in my collection the GE M-250R that dayburned (wasn't burnt out that time) for about 8 years that time had a rest from dayburning because it was a victim of the black out (different transformer from my old house) the fixture burned out around 2004 or so

We rarely lose power here in Southern California, but up north in PG&E's area power outages are more common, especially during inclement weather in rural areas.

Power today at May 31st 2011 went out again at 2:13 PM....okay there's always a first for everything! Its been seering hot here in my area....so either tranformer oveheated or too much AC running that it overloaded.....I trust BGE will make sure it will stay reliable after they figure this out.....unlike PEPCO!!!!

(Update:) I was told it should be fixed by 4:00 PM today....I am positive it will be fixed before 4 like they are on time or early...most of the time......it really has been really hot lately, but that doesn't stop the BGE employees from working hard to do it! They have a motto which is "We are on it!"

(Newest update!!!) Power came back at 3:14 to be exact!
gailgrove   [May 31, 2011 at 07:30 PM]
It crazily hot here today, with the humidity its currently 38 degrees Celsius (100 Fahrenheit) luckily our power is perfectly fine.

You have PEPCO, I have ESKOM ( the supplier of darkness) who are running at a reserve margin of under 5% at peak time........... One high power line trip at peak and we will be back in the stone age for a few days as the network collapses and islands.
GullWhiz   [May 31, 2011 at 08:28 PM]
I don't have PEPCO!!!! PEPCO is the supplier of darkness....its actually one of the most unreliable electric company!

I have BGE...not PEPCO! BGE is much more reliable and they respond to problems fast.....PEPCO..unreliable and takes FOREVER to fix power! MD has I believe 7 different electric companies....BGE being the biggest with most customers, then there's PEPCO, SMECO, Delmarva, Allegeny Power...and a few others
