Here is my open cap!!! This looks orange to me.....I know some electrical companies doesn't use an open cap but an orange sticker that one would slap onto the photocell socket for it to be removed though.
Does it have the contact inside? I have one from 97 and it has all but the contact and the window is a black piece of plastic as opposed to clear! Cool open cap though!
No an open cap only keeps the light off 24/7. If a light needed to be kept on 24/7 then a shorting cap would be used. And of course a photocontrol switches lights on at dusk and off at dawn.
I think they only use open caps to temporarily turn off lights. I have never seen an open cap in person but i think there is nothing inside them but pretty much the tops of the legs that go through the base.
Well, there are contacts on these because the manufacturer uses one base for all of its PCs, shorting caps, and open caps. This does the same thing as just having no PC in the socket. There are no connections inside. They use these because they keep water from getting into the receptacle.
Believe it or not...you know those wire free devices...with the part that goes onto the photocell socket....they are acutally used the same molding to make phorocells but with a hole on top drilled with a PC socket screwed on top of the PC moldings and where the "eye" normally is....instead the wire goes through that opening! Ill try to take a pic and show it to you all.....
I want one of those photocell socket power taps, but I don't know where to get one and I certainly wouldn't pay the arm-and-a-leg those thigns probably cost.
And look at your personal message on GoL please
ok!
