Diogen 48" LED / Fluorescent Replacement
Something I found at the local ReStore a few weeks back (for once they a bunch of cool new lighting stuff) .

A 'Diogen Lighting' 4-Foot LED tube meant for "upgrading" fluorescent fixtures..has 300 LEDs in it.
For this one the ballast has to be disconnected so it connects directly to mains voltage. Meant for 277v, won't work at all on 120v, but will on 240v

Found someplace online that at one point was selling these for $99 ... not per case ... per each!

Wow 1250 lumens? So you're getting less than half the light output for a little more than half the wattage, so where's the savings? Anyone who knows how to add and subtract can figure out these LEDs are less efficient than the T8s they're replacing! Mad Rolling Eyes I don't see the logic behind these fluorescent-to-LED retrofits...

I think allot of people see "its less watts" and thats all they look at.

Not much of a savings if you end up needing more lights to make up for the loss in brightness Laughing

Yeah they just look at watts, which is crazy. You'd think they'd notice that the light output was cut by about 60%. Rolling Eyes Laughing

You'd be better off using F17T8. You get 1400 lumens from an SPX35 (/835) F17T8 and you save yet another whopping watt of energy! So really, you could use these LEDs to replace F17T8s and you'd end up using MORE energy and still get less light! Insanity...

Yeah, it seems looking at watts is the trend now for lighting retrofit instead of doing what IMO is the better way which is matching lumens. That is unless the place was originally designed to be overlit.

I have seen these at the ReStore too, are you talking about the one on I-25/Ellsworth/Santa-Fe/Kalamath area? The one right next to I-25, cause that's where I saw a few of them and I was thinking about getting something like this but I ended up not, I go to the restores from time to time to see what is there and there hasn't been much recently.. They still have lots of high bays though. And all the Habitat for Humanity ReStores have been having a consistant amount of those big recessed florescent fixtures and those highbays as well, as every restore I have been to has those, and they all looked the same too.

@Mike: I have a pair of the 2-foot version hooked up .. sure when I look at it straight on, its bright, but not so much for lighting the whole room.

@joe_347V: Yep.. matching lumens, but using less power would be the only true way to do it.

@Lil'Cinnamon:
The one near Ellsworth did have them...but their price was something like $10 -- more than twice what I paid.

I got these from the one at Wadsworth & Quincy, along with some various other lights, most on that weekend a few weeks back when they had 25% off everything. I wouldn't have minded getting one of those 2'x4' 6-lamp recessed/troffer beasts, but $40 was too much.

Those various lights you saw that all the ReStores around here had .... Habitat/ReStore got atleast one large donation of new lighting, and then they distributed it around between the stores (that according to a ReStore employee who I heard talking to a customer). Some of those lights came from St Joseph's Hospital (atleast thats what the ship-to address was on the cases).

One of these days I need to go check out that new ReStore in Aurora.
