Brand New Camera Picture!
Here's a super close up picture of the same highmast found [url=http://www.galleryoflights.org/mb/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-1990] here [/url] but at 12X zoom instead of 3 and without in need to crop the picture! (click on the picture for amazing close up!)

Although I had to lower it from 12 MP to 3 MP to be able to post this pic in this page.

Looks like those use the same refractors as M1000s and the one that is missing the refractor looks to of had the lamps arc tube explode Very Happy

Whoa yeah nice close-up,great camera!! Looks like a crow or hawk attempted to start a nest in there as I can see some branches/twigs.

We have different sorts of birds around Darren, including those vultures, I know what we have is called Black Turkey Vultures ....they tend to sit on streetlights (and are sometimes BIGGER than the streetlights themselves) and wait for a road kill....they don't KILL animals....WE kill poor furry animals FOR THEM, and when we do, they will eat them...when fully dead.....they don't attack, just harvest dead animals! I actually have a picture I took from my phone (kinda blurry) of a few of those feeding on a dead deer!

I looked at the glass upclose and yes they are indeed M1000 glass, although its hard to see the GE logo. The logo is on the street side of the refractor on this particular pattern design. They could be old GE high masts, but I still can't confirm yet.

Very nice and clear close up shot Jace, Cool looks like your new camera is pretty nice, mines only has a 5X zoom on it.
gailgrove   [Oct 10, 2010 at 11:34 PM]
I would guess these must be a GE product then Smile
joe_347V   [Oct 11, 2010 at 04:03 AM]
Yeah the ballast housing reminds me of a GE highbay...
GullWhiz   [Oct 11, 2010 at 03:16 PM]
Can you give me an example of a GE highbay (and hopefully an older one too)
joe_347V   [Oct 13, 2010 at 04:42 AM]
I guess sort of like the older cube shaped ballast case on something like This 1000w One.
Form109   [Oct 13, 2010 at 04:50 AM]
totally unique highmast!....love those Refractors!
GullWhiz   [Oct 13, 2010 at 04:53 AM]
dude, Joe! I agree it is a GE it even has same design!!!

Form109...its not exactly because its unique....its cuz its old and one of the earliest highmasts...Highmasts came out in 1966 or 1968...thats when they were invented.....and this one here is from 1970....so they were still fairly new technology! Its one of the few oldest highmasts...older design too....

All the highmasts here are HPS.. Except some Highmasts I found on I-70.. They looked like they were Metal Halide. They were in the mountains.

I doubt they were Mercury Vapor but they probably WERE Metal halide. As they glowed white. And were bright.
