Thanks. BTW do you like the new avitar? Very Happy i hope to eventually find some black light blue MV lamps. I'm not paying full price though. A lamp over 30 bucks is a little insane IMO forget about $80+ Shocked

Yeah I like the new avatars you and Joseph both picked...
What do you think of mine?
streetlight98   [Feb 23, 2013 at 09:12 PM]
i love those norelco lamps in your avitar (had to slow down to spell the name right lol) Mine is sort of in response to Joe's. His avitar inspired mine lol. i figured i retire the worn "light in front of my house" avitar, though on LG I've never ever changed my avitar. I kinda want to leave that one alone. I go on there periodically to check out some fluroescents since fluorescents seem to be an LG thing. I like keeping everything together so my older pics are there and all my newer pics are here. my older pics are all blurry anyways lol.

I like your LG avatar too...
Did you almost insult my lamps by calling them "Norcleo"? Laughing
streetlight98   [Feb 23, 2013 at 10:54 PM]
yeah. Embarrassed Laughing Razz
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Feb 23, 2013 at 10:57 PM]
How dare you! Laughing
Just kidding; I don't think an inanimate object like a florescent tube would care anyway! Laughing
streetlight98   [Feb 23, 2013 at 11:12 PM]
it'll turn red with anger lol. If it was an Alto it'd go on strike and stop working. Wait! They do that anyway! Rolling Eyes Laughing
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Feb 24, 2013 at 12:06 AM]
I turned on my light and these just glowed a dim pink!
Nah just kidding, they're fine, although the top lamp has been removed and replaced with something else...
traffic light1   [Feb 24, 2013 at 10:43 AM]
Now that is a nice photo!
streetlight98   [Feb 24, 2013 at 04:21 PM]
Thanks Brian! Did i ever show you my lamps when you visited? Neutral
What's the new lamp Andy?
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Feb 24, 2013 at 06:11 PM]
Currently, it is a WestPointe F40T12. But this "old-school" fixture (it's the one with the Advance ballast) is also my "tester" fixture, plus I change lamps occasionally just to switch things up...
streetlight98   [Feb 24, 2013 at 06:14 PM]
WestPointe? Are they still around? I've never heard of them.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Feb 24, 2013 at 06:16 PM]
They're the new True Value brand instead of Value-bright...essentially a modern version of the tubes in your grandparents' garage...
streetlight98   [Feb 24, 2013 at 06:22 PM]
Ahh. Are they still made by GE? I know the Value-Bright ones here. I think the ones in my grandpa's garage actually say True Value on them. The F20s in the basement are indeed Value-Bright but don't seem to be GE made. They have long endcaps so the glass part is smaller than average and the overall lengteh of the tube is a tad smaller too. GE lamps won't even fit in the halfpiper in their basement. The first thing i'm doing if i i get that fixture is repalceing the sockets with standard Y-slot or doughnut sockets. i'll need the ones with built-in starter sockets though. I saw those at the local truevalue. Oddly enough, the true-value near me stocks regular GE lamps instead of their own brand. There are some older looking fluorescent parts there too! I'll stop in there again sometime. Probably when i go to order some pewter gray krylon paint.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Feb 24, 2013 at 06:25 PM]
Yes, they are still GEs. I knew the lamps in that garage were True Value and the one in the basement was a Value-Bright, though.
streetlight98   [Feb 24, 2013 at 06:42 PM]
The True Value marked lamps have the GE endcaps so i was like "What!" then i found out ge make them lol. I had taken the lamps out of the first and third ones to clean them since they weren't always starting correctly (especially the one closest to the door). Now it seems like there's more light too. I didn't clean the lamps in the second one though since the car was parked under it. The third one only had trouble if it was the only one turned on (all three are on separete switches so i don't know what the problem was there) and the first one was having problems constantly but it's amazing what cleaning the lamps can do. I knew the lamps were good since there is minimal blackening on the lamps. The second one starts perfectly anyways.
traffic light1   [Feb 24, 2013 at 07:09 PM]
Yes.
joe_347V   [Feb 24, 2013 at 10:58 PM]
Hey Mike are you talking about this kind of holder with the built in starter socket? For some reason any starter socket or preheat is impossible to find in Canada. I had to buy most of mine from the US.
streetlight98   [Feb 24, 2013 at 11:58 PM]
Yeah the one you linked. There were some at the True Value store but they were a little different. i think they were regular sockets joined by short leads.
joe_347V   [Feb 25, 2013 at 02:33 AM]
Ahh, I've seen pics of those before, I think HH makes them. The Leviton ones with the screw on starter socket should be closer to what your fixtures had originally though. I think I got mine at ACE.
