Ugly setup
This is the new pole and light along with the temporary signal. Atleast its not an OVX considering there are 2 other OVXs here. 1 B2255 still remains.

what's so ugly about it?
streetlight98   [Aug 28, 2015 at 04:50 PM]
Same, I don't see what' so ugly...
joe_347V   [Aug 29, 2015 at 03:24 AM]
I guess it's cause the pole in the median only has a cobra on one side. Normally those median poles have cobras on both sides.

I can't tell, is this the new drop glass?

@Joe yes indeed. I'll add it's ugly as 250W OVZ's have been forbidden in Brampton for 10 years! Well for any new projects for sure.

@Model25: I can confirm the maintenance contractor here, Guild, is now in an OVZ phase for their oddball projects. I have seen multiple sightings of OVZ's from them lately.

I still don't see what makes the set-up so ugly.
xmaslightguy   [Aug 30, 2015 at 04:29 AM]
I guess I don't see it either..

BTW m@, this is the new glass. The new glass has been in use since 2012

not up here in Brampton Mike, I've seen some spot replacement OVX's with the new glass, but never an OVZ. I was perplexed to why this summer I saw a road widening project lined with well over a hundred OVX's with the traditional drop glass.

And if we had a shot of this intersection with all the islands in view, you guys might see how offbalanced (ugly) the placement of this light is lol
Model25FanForever   [Aug 31, 2015 at 12:51 PM]
If you were to actually be there it looks horrible. Because all the other lights are on the corners with short arms. Then you throw in a median OVZ on only one side! Like matt said, depends where you look at it from. I know some of you cant see the whole thing until a new streetview comes up or I get a panoramic shot of the whole intersection. Once you see the whole intersection you can see how off balanced this is. Not to mention it replaced a B2255 Sad lol

If they add a light on the other side of the median it wont look so bad. It will look more normal if they add a second arm and cobra onto that pole

Just because they've been using the new glass since 2012 doesn't mean all the Cooper installed since 2012 have the new glass. Wink Cooper probably was using both old and new for another year or two plus your installers probably have a pretty sizable stock of fixtures in their warehouse. They started using Coopers here again in 2012 and since then I've seen OVZs and OVXs with both the new and old style glasses. Most of the OVZs here use the new glass but a few use the old. There's only been a few OVXs I know of and all but one had the old glass.

Has anyone in Ontario (or anywhere) seen an old base with a short signal pole be retrofitted with a taller+thicker pole with an added light like this? I think it's the first time I've seen it, always thought it was a structurally unsafe move as the concrete bases for signals without streetlights are smaller.
Model25FanForever   [Sep 01, 2015 at 12:39 PM]
Mississauga was doing similar things other than that I havent seen it anywhere else

A reason they moved the streetlight to the centre median just popped into my head. New electrical code forbids new streetlights a certain distance to powerlines, so I streetviewed some angles, and I think T H I SS view shows it is borderline illegal.
Model25FanForever   [Sep 14, 2015 at 12:13 AM]
Seems most reasonable of all. But the new ones on Hurontario at Square one have no powerlines beside it. If what your saying is happening then we will probably see quite a lot more of this.

The secondaries are mounted too high
Model25FanForever   [Sep 17, 2017 at 07:41 PM]
UPDATE: The OVZ and arm were replaced by an older style shaped tapered e arm and an AE 125.
m@   [Sep 20, 2017 at 06:24 AM]
Oh sounds like the 80's throwback arms I've been seeing in random projects! Sharper bend further down right. Also sounds like the OVZ was bowled down.

Yeah one of those were installed. It still looks tacky to me that there isnt a light on the other side of the pole
