Pathetic.
Sometime during 2011- early 2012 these perfectly working shoebox's were removed and replaced with 2 concrete poles with 400w HPS OVX's on them. I have reported them out before and they constantly keep failing. I don't think they have continuously cycled for more than a 4 month period. The far one was re OVX'd just under a year ago and has failed again. I think the wires coming up the pole or underground keep failing. Currently they are being fed with lines strung around them and yet still don't work. (the concrete pole is not leaning btw, it is the angle)

I don't know just my opinion I think the OVX concrete pole looks better. Not to step on any toes but the shoe box looks to be falling apart. But on the other not that's what you get with hurry up and get it done no sens of quality.

The bottom was rusting out a bit. I think they should have used 250w AE 115's or 125's on a shorter pole IMO
streetlight98   [Aug 16, 2014 at 01:58 AM]
Yeah those poles are so tall! The light on front of my house is probably 30-40ft high and it's 100W HPS.
Model25FanForever   [Aug 16, 2014 at 11:54 AM]
They decided to go from 250 to 400 for these 2 OVX's.

Yeah, when they aluminum pole OVX'ed all the shoeboxes on Sandalwood Parkway, I think they didn't change the original underground lines.

These remaining two shoeboxes on Conesoga Drive have been AEL 115'd with 250W HPS. All that's left in Brampton are the Centre Street ones I believe.

Oh god. I was just gonna mention This ones gone too The whole pole and shoebox is on the ground. I saw it today. They are using those pesky Tall 400w OVX's. I think all 3 shoebox's in that spot are coming down too. Crying or Very sad

vat Shocked ...Was it a knock down or a fall over or removed by a contractor? Yeah the tall 400W lights came up as spot replacements, a bit insane for a one lane road. Makes me wonder if the scheduled entire replacement project is on standby to see if they all get spot replaced under the normal maintenance contractor! Darn, I'm hoping for some FCO high lights for replacement work for once.

I saw some median mounted double-light ones on a freeway overpass on my way home from Canada. 410 maybe? I don't know...
Model25FanForever   [Sep 02, 2014 at 10:58 AM]
Probably the 403. Thats the only one I recall having mounted double lights on one or two overpasses

I looked at the whole pole and it had no damage or anything. But the contractors took of the lens and the bulb. Everything else is still there as of last night.
streetlight98   [Sep 02, 2014 at 08:20 PM]
Hmm yeah maybe. I honestly have no idea. It was near the QEW. West of it i believe...

Ah here for NGrid when they replace lights, for small sized fixtures they just replace them but for medium sized fixtures apparently they require two people to remove them so they will take out the photocell and wrap a ring of electrical tape around the light, just behind where the refractor area is. Then a period of time later (a month, three months, basically whenever they feel like it) the light gets replaced. I know of an OV-25 (400W MV from the 1960s) with a ring of tape and no PC, slated for removal, that's been that way for a long time now! I don't think it will ever get replaced. It's on a metal pole with the pole number sticker worn off so it can't be reported. I like seeing the OV-25 still up though. here is the OV-25 I'm referring to. In the streetview it has its photocell but was taped up. You can see the tape is worn off. Probably around 2012 they took out the photocell and retaped the light just behind the refractor. You can see the 113 on the truss is also taped up with no PC. That one's a weirdo since I've never seen a 250W HPs 113 used here before and it's on a 6ft truss arm, which is also never used here. That light has never had a PC for as long as I can remember (and has never worked for the same length of time). You can see in the streetview that the freeway has tall davits with OVFs. They installed those in the mid-2000s, 2004 or 2005. Before, the freeway portion had 250W HPS M-250R2s with individual PCs on 8ft trusses with 25ft tall poles, just like the OV-25 and 113. The ramps had tapered ellipticals.

here's a shot of some of the remaining trusses and tapered ellipticals, which light half of an interchange. 12 lights left total. None of the lights work though NGrid fixed about half a year ago, with a few being dayburners (all they did was fix a fuse that blew, leaving the lights dead for a decade) and that lasted a month tops before they all went out again. NGrid owns the PC-controlled lights and RIDOT owns the newer relay-controlled systems. There were more truss and tapered elliptical lights (...) here but they're redoing the freeway so all of those are gone (still under construction). they left the half-truss/tapered elliptical lit interchange alone for now though.

Yeah it was probably these at the 403. I see they replaced one of the shoeboxes with a OVX though. I'm guessing they didn't replace the pole since it was mounted on a overpass.
streetlight98   [Sep 03, 2014 at 10:26 AM]
yep that's it. Smile i recognize the power lines running along the 403 now.
Model25FanForever   [Sep 03, 2014 at 10:40 AM]
Actually both of the overpass ones are OVX's. They replaced the second one in the spring. The double shoebox is still the same though

Speaking of the shoeboxes around Highway 403, they are in the city that has slated to replace all lights with LEDs by 2015. I have seen their choice LED cobra fixture bolted into some lower shoebox poles - not the best match...

How is this city going to retrofit to LED by 2015 when over half the city is still HPS? I saw the city contractors still farting around up a bucket truck with an OVX (400W) today.

I don't think they can do it here by then. I guess this is the "ERA OF THE UGLYS"

This light is now working again and same with its neighbor. I didn't report it this time lol
