Son of a gun, LED's in this city finally utilized for upgrades! Those coach post-tops being replaced have to be the crappiest public street fixtures and poles I've seen, usually only common in privatized neighbourhood laneways. So I am happy to see how much better this street will be lit by going LED. Not sure how I feel about the look and light of this shorter NVN, yet to see it in person.
yeah those post tops look pretty low quality. overhead lighting lights the road better than post tops no matter what lamp type it is. probably since with overhead lighting the light isn't shining right into your eyes, which makes the surroundings look darker.
They are honestly really dim at night. Even the twistpaks were too. The original wattage in these areas were 70-150 the 150 being the 35ft pole at the end of the road. One of the poles has been replaced 3 times now. Originally a Model 25 then they installed a short OVZ then it got knocked over and a 35ft concrete pole with a 115 was installed and now these 20 or so foot poles with the NVN. This all happend in the last 3 years
Yeah I like that they light the road/sidewalk and not the sky and useless parts of the area.
here with newer developments with underground wiring NGrid will either install black post tops or M-250R2s on black poles (still gray fixtures though but which black pole and arm). with cobraheads they're always 50W and post tops are 100W and yet either way the street is still the same brightness.
Over here, I've found with most HPS to LED replacements, the LED lights are noticeably dimmer than the HPS lights they replaced. Then again, 70w is the lowest wattage we use (quite rare too) and 100w is more common here for subdivisions.
On my grandmother's street the Twistpaks got replaced with 70 watt OVZs... How is installing 103 watt lights that produce less light suppose to be better than HPS? I think they should've gone the CMH route personally...
yeah CMH would be nicer but unfortunatly when manufacturers say that "LEDs fixtures last an average of 20 years compared to an average of 5 years for HID" cities and towns believe that the HID fixtures only last that amount of time where it's really just the lamps that last that time and the fixture's life is much longer. Manufacturers can be a little misleading with LED information which is whay i dislike LEDs so much. It's not the LEDs i hate it's how LEDs are put on a pedestal and how they're the superman of lighting here to save us all. well i'm sick of all that crap. give me the facts and let me decide if it's worh coughing up the cash to have my "inadequate" lighting replaced with LEDs.
model25forever: have all the residential NVN's you've seen installed in Brampton have the same amount of light squares? ie. this picture uses 2 squares.
These are the first ones I have legitimately seen which are the ones installed in that subdivision. I couldn't' say because I haven't seen any other ones around. The old lights have been disconnected and the LED's aren't on because they didn't finish installing them yet due to a pole shortage
Now the last 5 or 6 have come on but no NVN''s on the very recent poles yet.
LED's are getting common here around where I live in Colorado. Colorado Springs is using LED's for all their new installations now, and you are seeing LED's pop up everywhere around Colorado Springs.
Lakewood, CO, is updating most of their traffic signal streetlights with LED's, (The ones on the top of the pole) and you are seeing those pop up frequently. The regular poles though just have the old cobraheads still, I still don't think Xcel Energy wants to use LED's for replacements just yet. The traffic signals do because Lakewood owns them and the city decided to use them.
The interstates here are also getting lots of LED's, and they light up very well. I am impressed by these LED lights, I mean they don't look as interesting as a cobrahead, but they emit very good light.
Yeah they are still very uncommon here but they will become more and more common in 10 years or so. Near where Joseph lives some roads are completely LED but the traffic light streetlights are kept HPS.
I haven't seen these NVN's lit up but I assume they have a whiteish color to them kinda like the MH.
