Dangling street light, CRASH! Here's a poor GE split door M-400 that broke off its slipfitter and hanging by the wires. I believe the pole was hit, so it damaged the fixture. Man I hope this fixture didn't hit a car passing underneath, crashing through the windshield or sunroof will be truly unforgiving. I know one case where this has caused serious head injuries, it was an accident somewhere on a SF Bay Area freeway where a car hit a pole and the fixture broke off exactly like in the pic above and it crashed into the car windshield and caused a massive head injury. It even led to a lawsuit. Scary, truly unforgiving. BTW, although this is in former CEP area, the signals were installed much later and the safety lights are city maintained. Oh gee! the casting itself just broke! Poor light. Sad Too bad it couldn't have been an LED light lol. I've seen this happen to lights but the whole light slipped off the mast arm it didn't break like this. I think in those cases it was because they didn't tighten the bolts enough. Those wires are tough though! I think someone on the LG had a pic of a M-400R2 being held up by just the wires and it was swaying in the wind but the wires held up. Shocked

Shocked I once saw a R37 like that. It was gone the next day (replaced with FCO AEL 125) so I think someone reported it and they fixed it ASAP.

In Massachusetts there was a 250W HPS M-250R2 on a 8ft tapered elliptical that fell off the mast arm (light fully intact though, it just slipped off the mast arm after it appears the pole was hit) They came and removed the old light within a day but didn't install a new one until i reported the ligth missing- TWICE. Then they installed a new light. Then the pole was renewed and they installed a new M-250R2 on a 6ft upsweep arm. Yet another case of a bran new light not getting transferred during a pole renewal. Yet lights that are missing the door and reflector still get transferred. Rolling Eyes

The other time this happened was earlier this year when that weired reverse-acting M-250R1 was replaced with a M-250R2 then the pole was renewed and another new light and new arm was installed. Ironically, the two times this has happend, the arms were both tapered ellipticals, though one was 6ft and the other was 8ft.

Just yeasterday in Brampton Canada (Sandalwood Parkway) a concrete median pole with double elipticals+OVX's atop was struck the second time in about 4 months. Driving by this time, one OVX was off the pole, but one was dangling just like in this picture (of course the door already fell though, being OVX). The time 4 months ago, both Eliptical arms fell too though (but were rusty old steel ones)! This tough pole will likely get re-fitted though! It takes at least a month for a linesman to get around to the job.

Again!? I will come by there this weekend to take a look. It was put up crooked before and the e arms were on an angle a bit. Maybe it will be put up straight this time. Good thing it wasn't the OV-15 either I was worried that it was the pole with the OV-15 on it. I assume you mean this one right?

haha, awesome you know all the history of this pole. That last 400W HPS OV15 is still safe on the next pole! When I went by the hit just happened, saw a police car was blocking a lane in case the dangling lume fell. Nothing special to see now, just the pole with the two arms and wires hanging out of each. The pole isn't even leaning more this time. Like I said, not a hazard nomore so it'll stay this way for least a month.

Something more interesting you might want to see is the first use of OVF's for knock down replacements by the signal maintenace contractors. They had sag lenses . Wexford & Hurontario, again median double arms! Since all lumes at new intersections they install now are FCO, I guess the contractors finally figured they can use them for spot replacements too! Idea

Thats like some of the 400w OVX's on the aluminum poles I know of near me. Theres 1 that has fallen down twice! Even the one on the other side of that one has fallen Exclamation
Thats pretty interesting I only know of 1 light with median double arm OVF's. The OVF's at that light have been there for a long time though. Good to know that the contractors don't plan on using the same lumes everytime. I didn't see why they couldn't have used OVF's for spot replacements rather than the super common OVX. Is this the Powerlites that were hit? or the OV-25's

Yeah, out of the whole stretch of aluminum median poles on Sandalwood only two are concrete and in a spot on the road curve making them susceptible to hits. All new median poles in the city have to be aluminum now, but if the concrete one that keeps being hit were aluminum, the pole+arms+lumes would fall into oncoming traffic windshields! Lucky fluke?

The Hurontario/Wexford OV-25's are safe. So not so much the powerlite R47's... I'm pretty sure the new OVF's are not in fact new, but likely reused from a collection of MTO temp lights... since I've never seen sag lens OFV's used anywhere else.
Is the double arm OVF median pole in Brampton? I can't recall one ever! Where?

Ok good I was just hoping it wasn't the OV-25's. I don't like seeing nice cobraheads in easy to hit spots.

Theres even a OVF drop lens here

Near an airport? Yeah I sure wouldn't want that crashing through the windshield or sunroof of my car!
