oooo some old calectric mercs!!!
these old lights appear to have been leased from calectric back in the day, it appears to be an old city parking lot or street. the flat bottom OV-25s ran on a multiple circuit. the refractors are gone but the 400w mercury lamps are intact.

Nice! I occasionally see a flatbottom Westie around here. Not very often though. The 60s version of the OV-25 seems to be the most common to come accross. I'm thinking by the 70s NECo had steered away from Westinghouse since I've never seen a Westie OV-25 with the PC in the far back 70s position here. By that time it seems ITT light were starting to get installed. I don't think NECo used the older 13-000 or 15-000 or 17-000 as i've never seen one.

Before the 70s it seemed to have been mostly Westie and GE with a little Line Material mixed in. Then in the 70s it was mostly GE with ITT a little less frequent. In the 80s it was mostly GE with Thomas and Betts/ITT and now Cooper (just the OVC). The OVM and OVS were used on RIDOT lights, but it seems they weren't used on wood poles, just the OVC in 50 (and sometimes) 100W HPS. Then by the 90s it was GE and T&B. Then when NGrid took over, they used up NECo's stock and continued using only GE, turning to Cooper when they're not impressed with GE's quality (why they turn to cooper for better quality is beyond me...)

Nice! there's a small number of flatbottom Westies around here but most either out of service or converted to HPS. The most common OV-25 here is the late 70s Canadian blunt nose version, next is the flatbottom, the 60s version seems to be pretty rare here.

@mike, i think in ri the silverliners were installed well into the 70s. in my grandparents old neighborhood there was a mix of westinghouse OV-15s and GE M250R1s all on the same style tapered elliptical arms. all the GEs had blue '10' and '17' tags.

by the way i found a couple 60s-70s pics of downtown Hemet, CA which was one of the Calectric towns. all the lights were flat bottom OV25s on concrete poles just like the above, except the overhead wiring for the lights was present. the signalized intersections had form 400s, i think they were state owned as this was on a state highway.

Was the OV-15 as common as the GE M-250R in the 70s? i always see bail latch M-250Rs and FCO M-250A2s everywhere but the OV-15, M-250A, 60s M-250R, and Line Material 175 are all pretty rare here in NECo territory. For the larger 400W fixtures, 60s OV-25s and 70s M-400 split door seem to be the most common. The 60s M-400s aren't all that common anymore which is a shame since i think they're very nice lights. In old Western Utilities territory in Newport and Middletown, the OV-15s are common as rocks.
