GE M-250A with missing door showing the series ballast its hard to see because this pic was taken at dusk, but if you look carefully you can see the series ballast mounted in the upper half of the fixture rather than on the door. this is in santa barbara, california (man i LOVE that city!) and many of the city owned street lights still operate on series circuits. I've always wondered why GE always made their series cobraheads with the powr/door fixtures and mounted the ballast in the top. Why not make the single door fixture the series model instead since the ballast is already in the top?

I don't think so... The Original M-400 and M-250R I think might have been but after the powr/door series came out in the mid-60s i think they sold their series lights as power doors with the ballast in the top housing.

i have seen 1970s M-250R1s, and later M-400R2s and R3s on series circuits.

Hmm so they offered the M-250A and M-250R1 in series? odd. Yeah now that you mention it i remember the MV M-400 series light. GE only lists the M-250A2 in series though.

yes it must still be there because it lights at night.

one thing that gets me with HPS sires lights is watt happens if the lamp starts to cycel? dose the hole string get knocked out?

Maybe they have to use non-cycling lamps or something. Do HID series lights have shunts too like incandescent ones?

I believe all HID series lights use a isolation ballast so when the lamp does or cycles, the current still flows to the other lists through the ballast.

I see a loose wire with a nut on the end.
