M250R1?...the Original M250 i think is a M400 Large Housing with a 250 Watt Lamp or something like that.
gailgrove   [Jul 16, 2010 at 08:19 PM]
OK thanks, this is a a train museum I help out at, I would be able to get this if it ever comes down Very Happy

No no no...This is a GE M-250R.....without the 1....

But Form109 information above is correct though.....with plastic lens...

The GE M-250 is the large housing 250 watt fixture, then GE M-250R is the above picture...then GE M-250R1 is the 1970 version which has the bail latch....then finally 1985 the GE M-250R2....

Here is a bit of reference and tool to help

Hey guys, if you where in charge of replacing this what fixture would you put up? The reason I ask is I might get that job I was thinking a 250 watt Probe start FCO 115, I say FCO because this is beside an unlit country road an if it had a drop refractor it would be very glary, any ways post what you think would be a good fixture Very Happy

I would replace the ballast with a 250w probe MH ballast and run mercs on it if it were me. But if you want to replace the fixture do what you siade and be sure to use coated lamps to cut glare.

Well most likely this light won't get fixed at all, to be totally honest I have no idea what is wrong with it since I have never been able to get permission to fix it. This is also mounted on a pole that also has the main sign for the place on it but I think we may be getting a new sign this fall so this could be coming down, I'll try to get it if it does but it might get put in storage.

Those older mercury vapor ballasts are very reliable. It may just need a new lamp. Hope you get it when/if it comes down.
gailgrove   [Aug 27, 2011 at 11:12 PM]
Well I think it is likely a underground electrical fault, the sign doesn't work either and none of the wiring was done correctly. I might work just fine if it was connected.
streetlight98   [Aug 27, 2011 at 11:30 PM]
Hmm. In that case ask whoever is in charge of the new sign project to save it for you. If you don't trust them it may be better to volenteer to help them with this. I know you said you do sometimes. with the help of my uncles connections, I conviced the owner of Seekonk Speedway to let my change the ballasts of any bad fixtures on the track. I have a feeling the ballasts aren't going to fail any time soon though.
gailgrove   [Aug 27, 2011 at 11:32 PM]
I volunteer here at least twice a month, I'm sure I can get it if it does come down, and I likely would help with a project like this.
joe_347V   [Aug 27, 2011 at 11:52 PM]
Yep be sure to save it if it comes down, if they really want to keep it I would convert it to CMH if it has a blown ballast.
gailgrove   [Aug 27, 2011 at 11:58 PM]
There is another one in storage too, plus that B2217 and the two R47s, from what I understand there will be a clean up in that area soon and they may be going, I will almost positively get them.
joe_347V   [Aug 28, 2011 at 12:03 AM]
Oh yeah they have all those awesome lights in storage, if you can score a B2215 and a B2213 from elsewhere you'll have the full line of 60s Powerlites. Cool
gailgrove   [Aug 28, 2011 at 12:06 AM]
Not only that, I'll have every Powerlite cobra ever made! Except for the B2228, unless the one I had a picture of is one, then if I got that. Shocked
joe_347V   [Aug 28, 2011 at 12:08 AM]
I think maybe that was a B2228, I guess the only Powerlite B series light we know nothing about is the B2214 "New Little Giant" but I don't think it was a cobra.
streetlight98   [Aug 28, 2011 at 02:15 AM]
wow it seems you guys unvaled a huge line of powerlites this year that we had no idea of before. Smile
joe_347V   [Aug 28, 2011 at 02:47 AM]
I still wonder what the B2214 looks like, the only thing I know is that it uses medium base incandescent up to 300w or 125w mercury vapour.
streetlight98   [Aug 28, 2011 at 02:52 AM]
sounds like a really cool lume.
gailgrove   [Aug 28, 2011 at 05:12 PM]
Yeah it does, I wonder what it was though.
streetlight98   [Aug 30, 2011 at 12:04 PM]
Maybe it was similar to LM's Dusk-to-Dawner. Idea
