My new OV-10!
This was an excellent find today! I was at the ReStore, and then I randomly see this light on the shelf and then I HAD to get it!

Plus it was only 5 dollars so it was really cheap.

This came with a GE 175w Mercury Vapor lamp in it.

I got a nice score!

Now I want to get a ballast to fire this baby up!

Shocked Nice Find!!!!
GullWhiz   [Aug 25, 2012 at 02:51 AM]
For the lamp....could it be an old GE....is the dimple on the top kinda squarish when you put your pinky in the dimple? Does the lamp have blacking on ends but clear in middle of arc tube? That's typical 60s GE
Antstar85   [Aug 25, 2012 at 02:56 AM]
Totally Jealous!
LilCinnamon   [Aug 25, 2012 at 04:04 AM]
Nope it's actually a brand new GE. And a 250 watt MV lamp.

All I need is money and a 250 MV or MH ballast.

I have a 100 watt MH ballast! But no lamp. xD
GullWhiz   [Aug 25, 2012 at 12:10 PM]
Actually this fixture is designed for 100 or 175 watt not 250 watt
LilCinnamon   [Aug 25, 2012 at 01:47 PM]
It still had a 250 watt lamp in it. But you never know. Sometimes people stick Random Lamps in fixtures at the ReStores.

Remember the two M-400 R3's at a restore? (I bought one of them)

I checked out that store yesterday and then the other one that I did NOT buy was STILL there! And someone stuck a 400 watt MH lamp in it.

And also.. How can I find the date of this thing? It doesn't have a label or anything.

But I can say it has the OLD Westinghouse logo on it.

I once bought a 50w MH light at Restore but it came with a 70w CMH. Razz
LilCinnamon   [Aug 25, 2012 at 04:32 PM]
Do you know how I can find the date on this Joe?

And I need a ballast for this. Right now I have NO money...

But nice light huh? Has a nice glass refractor. Too bad I don't have a 250 watt MV or MH ballast I could use to light this up...

I probably for now will just light it up with something else.. Like an HPS ballast. xD
Silverliner14B   [Aug 25, 2012 at 04:36 PM]
Nice find! At $5 that's almost a steal! Anyway I remember in a '65 Westinghouse catalog this OV-10 indeed can be used with 250w MV lamp, as long as it is equipped with a glass refractor.
joe_347V   [Aug 25, 2012 at 04:38 PM]
Hmm I don't think these older streetlights had the exact date on them, I've yet to find a date on my gumball.

The ballast I recommend eBay if you can get a cheap one there.
LilCinnamon   [Aug 25, 2012 at 04:56 PM]
Well I know this is BEFORE 1960 because it has the old Westinghouse logo on it. So I do know that it is one of the ones in the 50's.
GullWhiz   [Aug 25, 2012 at 11:06 PM]
Well not always, because my OV-12 from 1962 has new logo on the cast aluminum, body but old logo on the glass

Five bucks >> killer deal, great score. Very Happy
mercuryvaporrocks   [Aug 26, 2012 at 12:59 AM]
I bought a GE nema fixture a long time ago for $5 bucks.
joe_347V   [Aug 26, 2012 at 04:25 AM]
I bought a 400w BonusLine last year for 5 bucks. Razz
streetlight98   [Aug 26, 2012 at 06:48 PM]
This has to be your best find yet Ian! Welcome to the OV-10 club lol. I've never seen the remote ballasted version here; only the integrally ballasted ones.
LilCinnamon   [Aug 28, 2012 at 02:53 PM]
I don't think I have ever seen an OV-10 in person before.

I don't even have a CLUE where this came from! Or why it was at the store. I guess it was just pure luck. xD Me being at the right place at the right time before someone else bought it. xD But who knows how long it was there...

But now I got my first clamshell! An old one too.
streetlight98   [Aug 28, 2012 at 08:52 PM]
Well all clamshells are old. Razz You could use one of your balalst boxes as a remote ballast for this but i wouldn't mount this outside with the remote ballast unless you mount the ballast box inside and run the lamp leads to the fixture and back just in case.
joe_347V   [Aug 29, 2012 at 03:33 AM]
Well, I guess he could get a waterproof box and stick a ballast in that he can't find a can ballast or a place inside to mount the ballast.
LilCinnamon   [Aug 29, 2012 at 02:39 PM]
I don't want to mount this outside. xD

I want to light it up though. Maybe I can use that 400 watt MV Ballast can I have. xD An ED-37 (Or BT-37) Lamp will fit fine in this fixture.
