OVS fitted with new ballast.
Put a new 120 volt 100 watt HPS ballast in there. I found this ballast on the side of the road and it still works! xD

How is the wiring? I tried to make it as neat as possible. Since the old setup had wirenuts I used wirenuts for this one.

Ballast is small, the other one had a capacitor and was bigger.

Ballast was from a 100 watt Thomas and Betts Post-Top that I found, it was busted so I grabbed it. The post-top was one of the grey ones, not sure the model but it was with the small refractor and the huge "Hat" thing on the top.

For a second I thought it wouldn't fit in the OVS! Glad it did fit... Cause that would of been bad.

The ballasts looks kinda small O.O

I guess it's a reactor?
LilCinnamon   [Apr 07, 2012 at 06:35 PM]
It is a reactor ballast. It came from a post-top like I said.

Small ballast, but the GE One is a bit smaller then this one. Since the ballast block is hidden it looks a bit smaller.

The ballast also has the brackets on for mounting inside AE or Thomas and betts fixtures, like a 113 or similar.

But overall the ballast is small.

That's great you found a 100W ballast to put in here, looks like it fits good and neat wiring.

I have had the ballast for a while now. I found it before I even thought I would be getting an OVS. xD I Have two of the same 100 watt HPS ballasts.. One was from a 113 and the other was from a post top. The one in this was from the post-top.

The other OVS hasn't come yet so you will have to wait a bit until it comes. I am going to open it and inspect it and then send it to you.

That sounds good,I look forward to receiving it.

Is the ballast slightly rusted or something? It looks kinda discolored... Neutral
LilCinnamon   [Apr 07, 2012 at 09:09 PM]
The part of the ballast you see on the picture is the plastic part. The metal part is hidden by the bar that is holding the ballast.

It's not rusted at all, but it's been in use for I dunno how long in a post-top.

are all 100 watt bulbs shaped like that?
lite_lover   [Apr 08, 2012 at 04:37 AM]
There are also BT shaped 100W lamps too.
joe_347V   [Apr 08, 2012 at 05:43 AM]
And ET23.5 100w lamps too...I think only Sylvania uses that shape though.
LilCinnamon   [Apr 08, 2012 at 01:31 PM]
The ballast is very small, compared to the last ballast. Are most 120 volt 150 watt or below HPS ballasts reactor? How do they work better than let's say a CWA ballast? What's better about reactor ballast despite the size?
streetlight98   [Apr 08, 2012 at 01:40 PM]
BT-shaped HPS lamps and BT-shaped lamps in general are my favorites. ED23.5 is by far the most commonly found shape for 50-150W HPS and mogul base 50-150W PSMH lamps.

@ Ian, If i remember correctly, reactors have less ballast losses in terms of energy, they're more tolerant to a dead or missing lamp. CWA is more flexable with inconsistant line voltage. I personally think reactors are the way to go, but I think CWA is the most common type of ballast for wattages over 150.

i like those long shaped bulbs like the ones i have in my cooper and crousehinds but i have that same one in my 113
streetlight98   [Apr 08, 2012 at 11:18 PM]
Those are only made for 200, 250, 310, and 400w HPS lamps.

oh ok
