GE still makes the crimefighter in M-250A2 form. Granted the M-250A2 isn't as nice looking as the M-400A, but it's better than nothing.

Better grab a BUNCH of pictures before it's too late....Glad I saw those back in 2001-2004.....so Chicago will be 100% cermaic MH? Or is it only for the 310 watt fixtures?

I'll seriously miss HPS streetlights when all of them are changed to LED... Sad
GullWhiz   [Jun 05, 2012 at 01:04 AM]
Vince, Chicago isn't going LED, they are going CMH!!!! And trust me HPS will always remain...for the next probably 20 years...believe me.....even in the mid 70s some people had already called "MV" obsolete! The incandescent streetlights were already obsolete in the late 50s-60s.....and they still remain, in service in some areas!!!

I wish I could say that about my utlilty. 100% LED by 2014 according to My utilities website. HG&E's website and go to Customer Service and Streelamp outage to learn More.
GullWhiz   [Jun 05, 2012 at 01:12 AM]
yes but HPS will still be around.....like parking lot, wallpacks, buildings, whatever..... and you can always save a streetlight, cram some LEDs inside and install the LED cobrahead you made...somewhere your land! I sometimes see HPS oldie fixtures in my area.....from some workers who just decided to convert old mercury that burnt out with HPS and restored the body and reuse them!

I'm glad to see CMH replace these rather than LED. LED only reduces operating costs by cutting the lumens down. HPS actually has MORE lumens per watt than LED.
@ Jace; unfortunataly for the bigger utilities like National Grid, time is money so retrofits are unheard of around here. From what I've seen, Narragansett Electric didn't do many retrofits (if any).

I know Chicago is NOT going LED xD

But I wish I could say HPS is still going to remain for the next 20 years here... Yes some HPS will remain, but when it starts, the conversion will spread very quickly. It didn't take long for the mercuries to go back in the early 1990s. For some reasons utilities and Hydro-Québec like to change all the streetlights at once...

I believe most all cities in California will have at least some major pockets of LED street lights by 2020, it is almost mandatory because there is a state law that requires cities to reduce CO2 emissions.

Here it seemed to be a very grandual switch from MV to HPS starting with the higher wattages in the 70s-80s and the lower wattages from the 80s-90s though mercs were still installed in 100W until the early 90s.
GullWhiz   [Jun 05, 2012 at 02:09 AM]
Micheal, it's the same with incandescent to MV!

In PEPCO orginally everything would be incandescent gumballs with clamshells in 400 watt on the intersections....from the 50s, but in the 70s the gumballs were replaced with MV corbraheads but the clamshells stayed!

When low wattage mercury was introduced, they had a hard time having some places accept low wattage MV, so the fixture makers made cheaper fixtures like the MO-8 open bottom and the GE M-100 open bottom and other open bottom fixtures, but not all companies used those. But NYC and BGE were one of the few to accept them!
today it seems LEDs start with lower wattages, as well as Icetrons!

I'm glad to see some places installing CMH instead of LED. Oh and if someone here is feeling creative they could err retrofit a crimefighter to CMH just to see how a CMH crimefighter would look like. Razz

And yeah from the pics I've seen, some parts of Toronto didn't really use low wattage MV at all, they just stuck with incandescent all the way till the mid 90s when MH replaced them.

Does anyone here even have a M-400A crimefighter? What about the M-250A2 or bail latch M-250R crimefighter?
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jun 07, 2012 at 04:07 PM]
There's a member on LG who has a mercury vapor M-250R crimefighter.
streetlight98   [Jun 07, 2012 at 08:57 PM]
Yeah I think a couple of others have the 60s crimefighter. Darren has a crimefighter door.
