I'd save the striplights they're in if you can find modern fixtures cheap at Restore. Those 2XF40 strips are cool and the single lamp version would be a good candidate for a PH conversion!

Meh, there are more interesting fixtures in the family that I'm after. Razz Not too crazy about strip lights.

I like the 2-lamp ones. I don't have an F40 but I have a 2XF20T12, a 2XF96T12, and two 1XF20T12 ones.

My strips are all single lamp ones, an F14, and F15, an F20, and an F40. If that F30 strip is still at the ReStore the next time I'm there I'll get it (and get rid of the undercabinet light lol)
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jul 26, 2014 at 04:45 PM]
Yeah just gut that undercabinet for parts...
And of course look for the stuff to make it preheat while you're there! Laughing
streetlight98   [Jul 26, 2014 at 05:00 PM]
Yeah I'll save the sockets if they're decent and I'll save the ballast from the undercabinet light. It just looked weird mounted sideways on the wall with no diffuser lol.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jul 26, 2014 at 05:05 PM]
LOL yeah even lighting a counter I'd prefer a strip of shoplight honestly...
streetlight98   [Jul 26, 2014 at 05:29 PM]
Undercabinet lights are good for lighting underneath cabinets though lol. My parents won't let me install lights on the bottom of their precious cabinets though which I totally get lol.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jul 26, 2014 at 05:40 PM]
I'm almost considering sticking one of those F20 strips above my kitchen sink as an undercabinet light...
streetlight98   [Jul 26, 2014 at 08:35 PM]
LOL my parents would kill me if I ever did that without asking them. and they'd say no if I did ask lol.

My kitchen cabinets are homemade weird ones although my dad would probably not appreciate it anyway. There's lots of fluorescent lights in my house; quickly approaching being on par with or over the number of incandescent/CFL screw in fixtures! Laughing

Mine are regular particleboard cabinets Razz . I have three undercabinet fixtures in use. A 2x F8T5 fixture and F15T8 fixture in the kitchen, and a F30T12 fixture underneath a shelf as a desk light. The kitchen ones are both preheat, the desk light is RS.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jul 27, 2014 at 06:15 PM]
Is the desk one hardwired? Seems to me hardwired ones are always rapid start while plug-in ones are preheat...
streetlight98   [Jul 27, 2014 at 07:08 PM]
Not necessarily. All my undercabinet lights are hardwired regardless of whether they're preheat or rapid start, though in reality they're all plug-in since they're wired to words lol.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jul 27, 2014 at 07:31 PM]
Almost all my intended-to-be-hardwired fixtures are wired to cords too...
streetlight98   [Jul 27, 2014 at 09:49 PM]
For my suspended fixtures, I would always choose a cord as the preferred wire-up method but any light that is hardmounted I would also hardwire if it were put into actual use as the main room light (except for certain exceptions such as undercabinet lighting or undercabinet light applications such as the F14T12 strip over my bed.)
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jul 28, 2014 at 03:39 AM]
Yeah for example I hardwired the dreaded Lithonia basket wrap since it's hardmounted but I haven't actually wired it to power yet. It will be connected to the outlet with a cord though before it's switch since I'm going to eventually rewire the power feed to the garage/shop since it's currently a piece of #12 Romex running across the ceiling of the hallway next to it. (That was the previous owner; and as you can tell there's lots of strange things in my house) Laughing Then it will be hardwired.
joe_347V   [Jul 28, 2014 at 05:37 AM]
All of those undercabinet fixtures are cord connected. The F15 and the F30 fixture were factory wired, I fitted a cord to the 2x F8 light.

The majority of my fixtures are wired to cords, makes it easier to reconfigure lol. As for cords, I use 3 wire 18 gauge cords I get the surplus store for two bucks a piece. The only fixtures I have hardwired are the non suspended fixtures I have mounted.
streetlight98   [Jul 28, 2014 at 03:33 PM]
I like those computer cords but since I found a 100+ft spool of 3 wire 18 AWG cord, I'll just be buying those wire-on male plugs (which cost more than a computer cord. Rolling Eyes Laughing )
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jul 31, 2014 at 01:27 AM]
I like those wire-on plugs a lot! I always snip the cords off dead items before chucking them too...
