Ooo this one has a Sylvania lamp.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jan 26, 2013 at 11:52 PM]
Is the Sylvania lamp shape unique?
streetlight98   [Jan 27, 2013 at 12:02 AM]
Yep Philips and GE lamps are ED23.5 shaped. with low wattage HPS lamps you can easily tell the brands apart from a distance.

Sylvanias are this shape, Philips have the green dimple, and GE's look like Philips lamps, but without the green dimple.

So by bulb shape you can tell them apart like florescent endcaps...
streetlight98   [Jan 27, 2013 at 12:25 AM]
Yep! Though Non-alto T12 endcaps and Sylvania T12 endcaps are identical. And all T8 encaps are identical to my knowledge.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jan 27, 2013 at 12:27 AM]
Minus green ALTOs that is...
streetlight98   [Jan 27, 2013 at 01:08 AM]
yeah the T8 altos are different since they're green. other than that, they're all the same. Another reason why T12 is better lol.

Except T8 is more efficient with less character that T12s
I wish more 8' and 4' two-lamp T12 striplights were still around, along with the 400w and 250w MV/MH recessed fixtures...

I find rapid start magnetically ballasted T8 has the best of both worlds, you get the energy savings from T8 and the startup and character of T12. Only problem is that the magnetic ballast dosen't like super low mercury lamps aka Alto II.

Yeah but magnetic F32T8 ballasts pretty much don't exist. Razz i've never seen them in person or even seen any for sale. Neutral

Apparently they were quite common around 10 years ago. My old high school had a wing built in 2000 and it was filled with F32T8 magnetic ballasts. I only have one F32T8 magnetic ballast though, they also show up on eBay when I get home I'll see if I can find some for sale.
