What's the date of this? It's different than mine other than the obvious fact that this is 175w MV.

Date code says 45-06. I think thats 45th week of 2006.

I noticed the screws and bolts in this light holding the mounting clamp and ballast are different too.

Hmmm. Well when i bought this, the seller had new, and refurbished lights for sale. I wonder if this could be refurbished. I hope not cause he told me its new and i wanted a new MV OVZ Mad
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jan 10, 2012 at 03:17 PM]
I don't think this is a refurbished one, the company that made this light likely decided to use different screws and bolts.
joe_347V   [Jan 10, 2012 at 06:33 PM]
It looks like a new one to me, all the metal brackets inside are still nice and shiny.
LilCinnamon   [Jan 10, 2012 at 06:43 PM]
Looks like it was a factory decision. All of the bolts in there are black, I guess it's one of the earlier or something.

Very nice. I've never seen Cooper stuff up close in person but the ballast looks decent. Anything in 175w MV is my personal preference. Smile

One thing that did catch my attention in this light when i first opened it up is the slipfitter clamp bolts. Doesn't Cooper use bolts for the slipfitter that have slots in them for a flathead screewdriver? I've seen pics of OVHs on GoL with that type of bolt.

Do you have the ebay link for this?
HPSM250R2   [Jan 11, 2012 at 05:08 AM]
No i don't. I don't think the seller re-listed them yet. I can call him tomorrow and ask him if you'd like. I made the purchase with him over the phone. By the way, he had other lights listed just so you know. There was a 175 watt MV M250R2, a 175 watt G.E. NEMA head, but it was the head only, no optical assembly. And some other luminaires.
streetlight98   [Jan 11, 2012 at 09:37 PM]
Cooper probably just uses whatever bolts they can buy at the cheapest price. Cooper's MV ballasts are excellent from what I've been told. I don't have any moden cobrahreads and no HID Cooper stuff. Cooper does find the cheapest way to get a result though.

What Cooper HID lights use Cooper ballasts, I have a Cooper 175w MH flood that came with a Advance MH ballast.
LilCinnamon   [Jan 12, 2012 at 02:06 PM]
I think the ballasts used in my OVH, OVX, OVZ, those are Magnetek ballasts, I am not sure though, my OVH has a magnetek capacitor.

The AE ones use Advance I Think.. They have the same layout, they just have the AEL name on it. But advance probably makes them..

The good thing about GE is GE makes their own ballasts, their own capacitors, and their own fixtures. xD Well not sure about capacitors anymore.
joe_347V   [Jan 12, 2012 at 03:24 PM]
I believe the old Westinghouse cobras used their own ballasts, oh and most Powerlites should use Sola Canada ballasts...at least both of mine were like that.
gailgrove   [Feb 19, 2012 at 04:31 PM]
Cooper does make their own ballasts, my 400 watt OVX has a Cooper ballast, my OVZs do not however.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Feb 19, 2012 at 05:29 PM]
My newer OVZ from 2008 has a Cooper ballast.
streetlight98   [Feb 19, 2012 at 08:29 PM]
The ballast label doesn't mean anything... I know for a fact that their LED drivers are Adavnce
gailgrove   [Feb 19, 2012 at 08:31 PM]
Why doesn't it mean anything? It clearly says Advance on those, which are interesting but overpriced!
