Very Crude Remote Ballast.
The ballast is just set in the base of the pole, where the electric stuff usually is, No ballast can or anything, it's just like this. This is on the pole with the clamshell missing the refractor and lamp, I think they took a ballast out of here and left it like this.

The cover only has two screws and I just bent the metal covering it and took a pic inside the base.

Why would you bend the cover? I hope you put it back at the very least Confused I get the feeling the old can ballast was likely replaced by this.

Shocked Looks messy inside, and yeah they probably replaced the old can ballast with this since the cap is a plastic dry type instead of the older metal oil filled ones.

I didn't BEND the cover, I kind of... put it out of the way enough to fit the camera in. That's it. I put it back to how it was.

The ballast should be on some type of framework mounting, but I seeriously doubt this violates code since the ballast is in an enclosed container (X-former base).
