Nice! Made in June 1994 too, ten months newer than my R47. Interesting that they show the ballast code as Powerlite was quite late in using ballast codes and NEMA tags.
On the older lumes the "Made in Canada" on the bottom was followed by GTE Sylvania Limited or Powerlite Devices Limited.
Well I don't think there's anything amazing about two Canadian fixtures making down there, we have a lot of American fixture here, and um, now Mexican ones too...
Well the Sylvania/Powerlite fixtures are VERY rare down here, I have never seen any until these two in person. United States made the most fixtures anyway, which is why they pop up in Canada more often then Canada fixtures pop down here. They are just very rare and I get surprised when I see rare fixtures. The Sylvania/Powerlite fixtures are more rare than the Vintage fixtures! (in the US)
How about a Vintage Powerlite then? That would be even more rare! I guess that's true, also some of the smaller American brands are hard to find here, like PEMCO, Revere, Spaulding, and other brands like that. Here Powerlites are very common, but are being steadily replaced with AEs and Coopers.
I believe Thomas & Betts bought out Sylvania's lighting line and no Acuity Brands has all of the Powerlite stuff (if they ever kept if all of these years). I've never seen a powerlite in person until I went to Niagra Falls, Ontario.
Well Sylvania only took over the Powerlite name for a few years, they are really Powerlites which was its own company. They got bought out by Acuity Brands between 2000-2003, I'm not really sure about the details though.
See here and here Powerlite was spun off by Sylvania in July of '93 (which makes my R47 an oddball since it's from August '93 and still has GTE Sylvania on it) to a company called the Kaufel Group which was later acquired by Thomas & Betts in September 1998.
I believe the last Powerlite cobras might have been made up to 2002 since that is when I last saw them installed.
The old Sylvania Powerlite label looked like this:
Powerlites are still pretty common here but like in Niall's area they are being replaced at a steady rate with Coopers and AELs.
