NOS Sylvania 400w Mercury Vapor lamp
Got this on eBay to use in a certain fixture. NOS Sylvania 400w Mercury Vapor DX coated. Unfortunately, the lamp is broken. One of the connections on the starting resistor broke off. Still, it's a cool looking lamp.

Will it be possible to use the pulse start ballast or BBQ igniter for this bulb with broken resistor? Confused

I would think it would work with pulse start like rjluna says Idea
I have a 100W sylvania MV with the same problem and I run it on a 100W pulse start MH ballast

Yeah I would see it it works on a pulse start ballast or with a barbecue ignitor.

Nice lamp! And laptop!

If you are extremely careful, you can momentarily short the ballast wires going to lamp to create inductive kick to start lamp...sort of like a fluorescent starter. Just a quick spark should be enough.

Fun fact: that's how some European HPS lamps are started, they have a starter glowbottle inside.
