I've always bypassed my PC sockets since I never got the point on using a PC on indoor streetlights, and plus the keeping the PC in prevents the fixture from lying down. Razz

Well the good thing is I had all the components needed to fix the light. xD

I will get a picture of it soon, and yes Joe that is the auction I bought from. xD How did you find it?

Also a funny thing the light was located in Ohio and I am HEADING To Ohio this Thursday.

The light is in excellent condition though! I wonder how the guy GOT the light.. xD
joe_347V   [Jul 16, 2012 at 07:53 PM]
Heh, I searched part of the description using the search completed listings feature. Razz
LilCinnamon   [Jul 16, 2012 at 07:55 PM]
Lool that worked.

Actually I lied about the paint, the paint is still in excellent condition it just has lots of dirt on it. xD The paint on top might have some nicks on it but it's not too bad.

@ Joe; only my fisher peirce PC can sense indoor light levels anyways and I never have a problem resting my lights refractor side up with a PC installed. Not even the intermatic one. Razz The reason why I want a PC receptacle is more so for the look since street lights on wood poles have PCs. Also, I want the PC wired up so if I need to use that function I can. The rest of the time I usually either use an unsensitive PC or a shorting cap.
joe_347V   [Jul 16, 2012 at 09:53 PM]
Ahh I see, I usually store and run my lights upside down so the PC kinda gets in the way. I might wire the socket back in and install shorting caps when I order new PC sockets for my lights though.
streetlight98   [Jul 16, 2012 at 10:26 PM]
If you can't get a shorting cap (I don't have any real shorting caps, I just modified my open cap and I have a dayburning ripley sunswitch from '88 ) you can buy a cheap low profile PC at Lowe's and drop it down a flight of stairs. Laughing I either run my lights right side up with the refractor resting on the tile floor or like how you described. Depends if I want to view the lamp warming up or if I'd rather see how the light looks lit up.
joe_347V   [Jul 16, 2012 at 10:40 PM]
Heh, if I do decide to add a shorting cap I'll probably order one from 1000bulbs or order one off eBay or something.

They actually took the entire ballast out! Like I said how I got this it was set up extremely tacky. The package included a photocell but that's it.

I am glad they left the screws that hold the ballast IN the screw holes on the door. Cause if they didn't I most likely wouldn't have been able to put the ballast back in, but I might of had extra screws.

But I like the light overall. Still in great condition.
GullWhiz   [Jul 18, 2012 at 05:18 PM]
you could have asked for the ballast, he may have provided it....
streetlight98   [Jul 18, 2012 at 06:22 PM]
My guess is that they got rid of it when they removed it.
joe_347V   [Jul 19, 2012 at 05:31 AM]
I wonder why did they get rid of the ballast...was it because the ignitor died or if they can't find 100w HPS lamps or was it because they didn't like the HPS colour. Razz
streetlight98   [Jul 19, 2012 at 06:22 PM]
They probably thought the HPS lamp were to pricey. Rolling Eyes Laughing Can PSMH lamps be operated on HPS ballasts of the same wattage if a PSMH ignior is put in or visa versa>
GullWhiz   [Jul 19, 2012 at 06:37 PM]
No American PSMH can not be operated on American HPS, however it can in Europe.....in Europe they are very exchangeable due to higher line mains voltage giving more felxiblity of using only reactor or choke ballasts allowing easier to make.

With 120 volts, you can't operate a MH lamp on a reactor ballast, so we need to have an Autotransformer......Europe doesn't have to, so they designed the HPS lamps different and more equalivant to the MH lamps while the American HPS can accept lower voltage and use reactor ballast....

Reactor, the choke ballast are a lot more efficient than auto transformer, which is why we have choke ballast for lower wattage HPS instead of using Autotransformer ballast for HPS
joe_347V   [Jul 19, 2012 at 08:05 PM]
I think that's why you sometimes see fixtures with 277V only ballasts, at that voltage MH ballasts can be reactor ballasts.

I think the only PSMH lamps that can operate on a HPS ballast here are those 250w and 400w CMH retrofit lamps that are designed for HPS ballasts.
streetlight98   [Jul 19, 2012 at 08:14 PM]
I was under the impression that a 150W PSMH lamp would work on a 150W HPS ballast with a 100V ignitor because of the higher voltage. I tried a 70W MH lamp on the 70W HPS light Niall now has and it just glowed a dim blue color. It had a faint arc but wouldn't start up.
joe_347V   [Jul 19, 2012 at 08:17 PM]
It might on the S56 (100v arctube) ballast but it shouldn't work on the S55 (55v arctube) ballast. Anyone here have a S56 ballast and want to try that out? I believe 175w MV lamps can run on the S56 ballast too.
GullWhiz   [Jul 19, 2012 at 08:24 PM]
Normally a 150 watt 100 volt HPS would have an NEMA tag with "15H" on it
joe_347V   [Jul 19, 2012 at 09:21 PM]
Interesting, I've never seen fixture here with a S56 ballast myself. They seem to be very rare.
streetlight98   [Jul 19, 2012 at 09:28 PM]
Why is there a choice between 55V and 100V? Is one better over the other?
