Turns out Home Depot now uses Philips 205w and 330w CMH AllStart lamps in the garden center sections. They are bright and the color rendering is superb! Have you seen them?

No, you will need the OCV from a probe start MH ballast. AllStart lamps need at least 350v to start, a MV ballast has too low of an OCV to start it.

I don't think HD would sell them, my local one doesn't even sell MH lamps at all and the one I went to in the US only sold probe start.

Look at Dave's first comment. Wink I wonder why MH fixtures aren't sold in Canadian Lowe's and HDs. Confused

My HD also uses MH in the garden centre but I don't see them selling MH lamps here. Confused Dave didn't say anything about HD selling them. Razz

My local HD sells a 70w MH yardlight but it costs $80 or so.

Oh. Embarrassed I see. The MH lights here at lowe's cost about 60-70 dollars. i don't like HD because they are more expensive and I find poorer quality.

I have seen 70 watt and 100 watt pulse start with medium base in Home Depot...but funny thing is they tend to put it in the outdoor light aisle instead of the lightbulb aisles!

Now that you mention it I think the local Home Depot has a 70w MH in the lighting fixture section,
they also sell 175w clear mercs and 70w HPS lamps.

Here, I see Philips 100-250w MV, 50-400w HPS, and 100w-400w MH in the bulb section of HD. In the fixtures section I see chinese 50w and 100w MH bulbs in Lithonia packages.

If I can remember correctly, those are Casters.
