ANSI assigned new ballast codes to identify the new reduced blackening mercury lamps introduced in the late 50s. Other than that, there isn't anything different in electrical values. In 1972 ANSI revised the ordering code that omitted the old ballast code and included the lamp wattage. Lamp manufacturers gradually updated to the new codes during the following 5 years.
