Repaired just in time!
A few hours ago I had another power outage! I was removing some unusable parts on the circuit boards I keep for parts, then everything went dark, and my fire alarm control panel was NOT plugged in this time! It lasted about 15 minutes, but luckily I had my emergency light plugged in so I had some light to find my way!

There's one thing though... I made it all up.

I did not really have a power outage tonight LOL. But I found a pair of big 3V lithium batteries, so I made a 6V battery pack and tested the lamps in a sorta "real situation". It's not bad at all! I could clearly see the stuff on my electronics workbench. Plenty of light also lit the floor. Performances are excellent for only EIGHT watts!

I can't wait to get that 6V 4.5Ah (or higher if possible) and finaly get this thing in service! I've also wired a 120V outlet dedicated to the emergency light, I only need to connect it to the existing vacuum outlet nearby.

UPDATE 02/10/12: I received the 6V 4.5Ah battery I ordered! Turns out this emergency light works perfectly. NOW I am ready for the next power outage if it happens when I am in the workshop!

sweet! Is there a reason for the beams crossing each other like that? Normally i see the heads aimed away from each other... When i get my own house (yeah not for a while since i'm only 14 lol) i want to set up an emergency lighting circut for my basement. If you were to unplug it, would it think there's a power outage or is there some way to prevent it from coming on?

The heads cannot be aimed the other way, or at least it looks pretty weird, since they're close from each other.

This emergency light is plugged in 24/7 in an outlet I wired next to it. I got to let it on 24/7 because it monitors incoming voltage to turn on the lights when power goes out. In fact all stand-alone emergency lights must stay energized 24/7. But they're not required by code in houses, so you'll not "violate" anything if you don't keep them on all the time, even if it's better to do so LOL.

I keep my combo exit sign plugged in 24/7 to use as a emergency light but I disconnected the AC supply to the sign so that it's not lit 24/7...it only lights when the emergency lights come on.

Is there some way to wire a switch to it so if the power is out, you can have the light on only when you need it?
