I think the one he's holding is gonna be rejected and repainted. There's a scuff mark on the top. I am guessing the labels on the lamp holder is added in the ballast dept.
It would be awesome to go in the factory and flip some switches turning on the lights if those fluoros are preheat!
I looked closer and saw a lot of OV-15s above the grates! Wow! Never seen so many Silverliners in one place or pic.
I think they make the housings and install the PC receptacle etc in huge masses and then install the ballast per customer order to cut down the lead time and so they don't waste products (like if they made the lights fully pre-made and made 1000 100W MV ones and 1000 175 MV ones and they didn't sell all 1000 100W MV ones, they'd loose money. Casting all the housing and assembling all the manatory features cut back to time. Then I'd assume the varibles such as the ballast, refractor, and labels are added when an order is placed.
Hmm. Joe Maurath told me the paint on the very old lights, especialy Westie lights like my OV-10, had a very thin coat of silver paint that easily wore off after a few years of use out in the elements. You would think my OV-10 was bare, but when you unbolt he reflector, you'll see nice shiney silver paint on the ballast housing where the reflector covers it from the weather. BTW, looks liek there was a reject silverliner, as there's an empty hook in the front. Unless they leave certain hooks empty for whatever reason to mark like every 50th light or something...
Jace. I meant standing in one place and seeing so many OV-15s. Driving around do NOT count! Highest count of classic lights are the OV-20s which I saw over 50 of them standing in one spot! They're in Hagerstown MD.
These Silverliners are built like a tank but they aren't perfect explaining the bare hook unless it was meant as a count marker.
My Silverliner has the bare top but painted insides. And it has the weird mold line on top like the one next to the one the guy's holding.

Hmm, I thought the Canadian Silverliners were unpainted, all of the ones here are unpainted.
