I'm guessing that's what the ships switched to fluorescent lighting so early on. Razz

LOL job security...bet rough-service bulbs would've been great here!
streetlight98   [Apr 29, 2013 at 01:36 AM]
Yeah that's probably why! Don't fluorescents have filaments too though on the ends?
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 29, 2013 at 01:39 AM]
Yep but maybe the violent concussions didn't break those filaments? Or maybe the whole tube would shatter in extreme cases? Laughing
Maybe slimlines would have been nice to have around in the 1940s for that reason?
streetlight98   [Apr 29, 2013 at 01:46 AM]
yeah. all the slimlines were added though. i wonder if there were ever any T17s in the ship... over half the ship is off limits to people so who knows what lies within the sealed off chambers. Shocked
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 29, 2013 at 01:48 AM]
LOL maybe there's T17 fixtures with daylight Westy blackenders that still work? Laughing
streetlight98   [Apr 29, 2013 at 01:50 AM]
oh man I'd die! Shocked Very Happy any maybe a case of 1940s tubes hidden down there? Very Happy I don't think any of the workers that currently work there have ever been to the off-limits areas of the ship. anyone who's ever been down there is probably long retired.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 29, 2013 at 01:56 AM]
Or even stuff like Sylvania Lifelines and GE Mainlighters or Norelco tubes...
joe_347V   [Apr 29, 2013 at 07:49 AM]
I'm sure stuff like Mainlighters and Lifeline lamps are quite common in old storerooms. I mean, they show up from time to time at Restore here...

40s tubes might have survived in NOS condition but they're usually odd sizes and with F20 and F40s from the 40s being very rare.
streetlight98   [Apr 29, 2013 at 03:28 PM]
yeah i'm sure some lamps and their gear have died off since the 40s. F20s and F40s are still super common but if they were sealed off in a vault that's been closed since WWII ended, your bound to find something. Maybe a fixture with brass-ender mazda lamps in it? I sure hope whatever is down there hasn't had power since the 40s or nothing will work lol.
