GE Induction retrofit
Cupertino, California - the entire city is lit with these types of retrofits! Daylight-quality light, and an E-shaped vessel which looks almost exactly like an old mercury light! Probably the best modern retrofit I've seen. [url=http://tankostreetlighting.com/]Tanko Streetlighting[/url] builds these; induction kit make is unknown.

Pomona, CA is changing to induction, they installed refurbished GE and ITT cobraheads with tags like this one.
TiCoune66   [Jul 05, 2011 at 01:13 AM]
That is what should be the streetlighting of future. Smile
gailgrove   [Jul 05, 2011 at 01:22 AM]
No way, ceramic metal halide is a hugely better.
TiCoune66   [Jul 05, 2011 at 02:58 AM]
I actually meant to say that retrofitting as a whole was better than LEDs.

But I STILL approve induction retrofits! Idea
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jul 05, 2011 at 01:17 PM]
I wish more lighting companies offered induction cobraheads that look like normal HID streetlights.
GullWhiz   [Jul 05, 2011 at 08:01 PM]
I like this retrofit!
Form109   [Jul 05, 2011 at 10:00 PM]
I agree i like this retrofit, looks quite nice, but niall you seem quite biased against anything that isn't HID? Neutral
joe_347V   [Jul 05, 2011 at 10:09 PM]
Looks nicer than most of the other streetlight retrofits I've seen.
GullWhiz   [Jul 05, 2011 at 10:33 PM]
Yep Niall only likes HID that's all....But LPS aren't really HIDs Razz And I am not sure if Niall likes MV or not...

And I am pretty sure if Niall was born in 1935, he would be biased against anything that did not have a filament or used a ballast! Laughing Razz

And if he was born in 1880 he would be biased against any light source that used ELECTRICITY! Shocked

But but hey guys....respect his opinion! That is what makes Niall who he is! And that is pretty cool! If we all had same opinions...life would be BORING!

I do prefer HID for commercial and industrial area lighting, that said I don't mind induction for some things, like sign lighting and other smaller things.
I like LED for indications and signalling and I like incandescent and halogen for indoor residential lighting. Of course I like mercury Jace, but there aren't any around my area (other than my basement). But still for street lights I don't like anything but HID. Razz

Lifeguard,Banner and Bonusline Mercs were my idea of a Perfect lamp.
joe_347V   [Jul 06, 2011 at 09:42 PM]
@Niall, Apparently Vaughan still had a small number of mercs in 2009. Shocked

I don't know if they still have them or where these fixtures were though.
gailgrove   [Aug 14, 2011 at 10:34 PM]
That has got to be the most outrageous document I have ever seen! They said HPS was inefficient, didn't even mention CMH and said the LED fixture are to heavy for the current arms even though they are lighter than most HPS fixtures. Shocked Mad Rolling Eyes
joe_347V   [Aug 14, 2011 at 10:42 PM]
Well no surprise there, they're the same city that replaced HPS lights with these contraptions. Rolling Eyes Shocked
gailgrove   [Aug 14, 2011 at 10:59 PM]
But they said that LEDs where to heavy Rolling Eyes
streetlight98   [Aug 15, 2011 at 01:43 AM]
The older ones probably had heavier drivers but some newer ones aren't even metal!
joe_347V   [Aug 15, 2011 at 01:46 AM]
Aren't most LED drivers electronic, I'm sure a magnetic HID ballast would be a lot heavier than that.
Form109   [Jul 07, 2014 at 06:07 AM]
I thought all LED Drivers were electronic?
