Double-headed cobra Finally got a photo of these, though not a great one. This is an unusual style of installation in Washington State and haven't seen this many other places either. I keep thinking it'll succumb to a LED upgrade and wonder how it'll be done, but this quarter-mile or so stretch has stayed intact. Perhaps it was done this way as there are no poles on the other side of the road and they found 400w was not enough, so they doubled them. I think there were single 700w/1000w mercury vapor here before but don't remember anymore and don't remember them being double-headed. They may have been though. These are GE M400 full cutoff HPS fixtures. Keywords: American_Streetlights

Hmm interesting. Some of the members in the Maryland area posted similar set-ups but IIRC the lights were 150W HPS each and one light on each pole was shut off mid-way through the night to "dim" the highway. Interesting concept though I suppose that wasn't the intention here. Pretty cool looking though! Looks like they just bolted a flood light bullhorn onto the end of the mast. Laughing

Yeah The MTO had a similar test setup on the 401 through Oshawa. They used custom made two pronged tapered elliptical arms though.

Downtown St. Louis did the same thing with the 2X GE M1000s.

There is a similar setup like this by a car dealership near a freeway. A bullhorn with a 200w HPS cobrahead (usually a GE M400R3) and a 400w HPS GE powerflood installed upside down and pointing backwards. Of course they replaced the M400R3's with those HIDEOUS american electric LEDs.

HPS fixtures at a CAR dealership? That's a first! I think just about every car dealership went straight to MH by the 90s! Switching from MV probably.
