There's a row of Crouse Hinds OVZs at the enterances of my old neighborhood off Rt. 198......Earliest I would say installed in 1988...not sure when they were installed...but I remember seeing them there for a long time....

What kind of lens was put in?
GullWhiz   [Sep 17, 2011 at 08:14 PM]
I believe Acrylic GE or a Formed Plastics......For those wattages and type of this lamp

If it was 250 watt MV or above, it would be glass....

Oh. The utility here uses whatever they have. (250w fixtures always have glass, but 50 and 100w fixtures use whatever they have in the truck) Most times it's a FP lens.

Hmm my area is 99% glass, I've actually seen very few plastic lenses used here.
GullWhiz   [Sep 17, 2011 at 11:18 PM]
Here they used to put in plastic on high wattages (small and big fixtures on some) but for the big fixtures they tend to brown out....and for 250 watt MV small fixtures, they MELT inwards!!!! But some linemen today are stupid enough to put plastic in!

Yes the lense installed was an acrylic GE lense, I like them over the Formed Plascitc we use to use.

Why is that?
