Nice to see a light fixed instead of scrapped!
joe_347V   [Dec 03, 2011 at 04:04 AM]
Same here, I wish more utilies would do this instead of scrap everything they work on.

Nice fix! Much better then a whole new ballast kit!
streetlight98   [Dec 04, 2011 at 06:39 PM]
don't let that door drop! Razz I always feel leery about leaving the doors in the pins. When i mount my lights temorarily in the back, i Always fully remove the door for some reason......

The Powerlites have drop proof doors, even the rear one on a B2255.
streetlight98   [Dec 04, 2011 at 08:44 PM]
Drop proof? Are you talking about hinge keepers? The refractor door on my M-400 split door isn't supposed to be removed and it can't anyway. The access door can though.
joe_347V   [Dec 04, 2011 at 09:15 PM]
Keepers of the hinge I am talking about 98th streetlight.
streetlight98   [Dec 04, 2011 at 09:18 PM]
Why funny are you talking 347v Joe? Razz Laughing

Oh great streetlight 98 is going to OT land again like he did on the forum. Rolling Eyes
streetlight98   [Dec 04, 2011 at 09:33 PM]
Oh please. It's a joke. Rolling Eyes Anyways, this is a M-400A2 right?

Replacing just an ignitor is a lot easier and cheaper than a whole new fixture. If the ballast was bad I'd remove the powr-door and put a new ballast on it. These have a screw to hold the door closed and not just the latch so it wont fall open or to the ground.
joe_347V   [Dec 05, 2011 at 04:20 PM]
Which is why I never got why my area replaces fixtures just because the ignitor is dead.

Sometimes utilties have a policy that street light fixtures must be replaced after they reached a certain age, like over 15 years old. Southern California Edison has this policy, although old fixtures don't always get replaced when they require servicing.
gailgrove   [Dec 05, 2011 at 07:41 PM]
That is a stupid policy. Rolling Eyes
mercuryvaporrocks   [Dec 05, 2011 at 08:32 PM]
Unfortunately the majority of utility companies consider older fixtures obsolete.

Clamshells aren't serviced by National Grid, nor are 400w mercs, but the 80's 100w MV M-250A2 FCOs and other 100w (and possibly 175w if they're used here) mercury fixtures are also serviced. National Grid just doesn't order spare ignitors from GE I guess. NEMA really should focus on making regulations for making universal ignitors rather than banning a long lastign light source (MV). Rolling Eyes Mad
