Hmm how come only the fixtures over the parking lot were changed? Who owns the poles, the parking lot or city? Did the LEDs replace AE 113s too?

I guess the parking lot lights might have been PAL lease lights and the person leasing them requested a upgrade to LED.

Yeah that sounds probable. I've seen a car dealership take it upon themselves to change out some floodlights on a utiltiy pole before. A lot of dealerships here have 1000w MV GE powerfloods leased to them that were all "red capped". Well, one car dealership recently went LED and when they did they changed the PAL lights too! So the dealership can get into some serious trouble if NGrid finds out since it's technically energy theft since it's unmetered electricity.

I just find it hillarious how they changed out the electric company's lights to LED lol. at least they used photocells or the lights would be on 24/7 lol. I guess the contractor is an idiot. Laughing Have you noticed that a lot of LED parking lot lights have photocell receptacles? Here the car dealerships that have gone LED, a lot of them have PC sockets with yellow 480V PCs in them, i guess for increased energy savings. The dealership i was talking about used yellow PCs but the PCs on the utility poles where the PAL floods were had blue PCs. I guess the contractor that changed them to LED kept the mains voltage 240 instead of switching to 120V like NGrid did when HPS took over.

It might be the contractor not paying attention and changing out too many lights lol. I haven't noticed any LED parking lights with PCs though, I assume the ones here are switched the old way with a timer and contactor. I think most parking lot lights here run off 347v so I'm not sure if they still use yellow PCs for that voltage.

Oddly enough there was a mall here that had MH cobraheads except for the one over the driveway which was HPS. The poles and arms were the same so I guess the utilty might have retrofitted their light to HPS lol. Everything is LED now though.

The city like most have different account for each department, ie police, fire, streets, parks, ect. Perhaps the LED conversion grant was for specific accounts. You can see what it looked like before, on St View, 9th & E, Colton, CA the police yard now has LEDs too while the street still has HPS.

@ Joe; interesting. Yeah the lights are still switched by timers but they have photocells. A lot of LED isntallatiosn here have PCs or shorting caps versus no PC sockets at all. BTW, 347V PCs are green.
@ Rick; ahh yeah that seems probable.
