NOS Universal F30T12/F40T12 Single Lamp Rapid Start Ballast
Yep! Still in it's box! From Feb. 1985! The frustrating thing with this ballast is that the leads aren't long enough to reach the sockets in a 4ft fixture. :-| That means I'd need to use an extension wire on each of the leads. I found it odd how small this ballast is. It's maybe a tad larger than a 1-lamp F20T12 trigger start ballast...

Cool find! I have three of these from March 1982, they're smaller since these are NPF ballasts (no cap). They tend to underdrive F40 lamps though so I found they work better as F30 ballasts.

Thanks! Ahh that's why it's so much smaller lol. The leads are only long enough for a F20 fixture though. Rolling Eyes Maybe someday I'll come accross an F30T12 fixture housing in need of a ballast! Smile I've NEVER seen a F30T12 fixture of lamp in person. Are they rare?

They're somewhat rare but I've seen them used where a 4' fixture won't fit like in bowling alleys over the pins, in the ends of subway cars...etc. Home Depot here used to sell a F30 fixture and I have a few I grabbed from Restore.

tested it and needless to say it works. It works better with an F20T12 lamp though lol. I wouldn't use this with a 40W lamp since it's pretty dim, though it probably wouldn't be too bad for a F30T12 lamp. i noticed this doesn't mention no PCBs, though it's from the 80s. Neutral

it cant contain PCBs because there is no capacitor, and these NPF ballasts last forever it seems

Oh yeah! Embarrassed Duh! Rolling Eyes Laughing

Mine looks NOS or near NOS even though it has been in use in my kitchen from 1982 to 2008.

This ballast is ban proof too since LPF ballasts are still legal.

Funny how the crappiest ballasts in term of light output are still legal. Mad Rolling Eyes Laughing

Yeah it's too bad you can't get HPF F40 ballasts anymore. I bought a new one shortly before they were banned and I also picked up a few used ones from Restore so I should be good in terms of replacement ballasts. It's a good thing that HPF F40 RS ballasts were common enough that NOS ones are still very common on eBay. Even good old merc ballasts are still common on eBay. Razz
