Westinghouse H38-4JA/W mercury vapour lamp.
This is probably the greatest lamp I've bought in the last months! I came across a PDF document on Google that listed a variety of items for sale by "ALC audio". This nice NOS lamp happened to be in the list! It was 21$ + 9$ shipping, definitely an excellent deal!

As a daylight fluorescent nut, I simply LOVE the colour of that lamp! It is white with a touch of blue, goes very well with daylight fluorescents!

And the best thing, this lamp came with the original sleeve! I never expected to get the lamp with its sleeve. Smells old, but it's in pretty good shape!

Shocked Wow great find! I have some vintage mercs but no Lifeguards. Sad

Yep, keep looking on eBay Ian! One thing I do... Say you look for 100W mercury lamps, do several researches with different terms, like "100W mercury", then "H38JA", "H38 mercury", "H38 bulb", etc etc. One day you'll come across something interesting!

I have one more lot of NOS mercury lamps left that didn't arrive. It's a pair of NOS Westinghouse H33GL-400/DX from 1975 or 1976! Their sleeves are in absolutely perfect condition!

Those are SWEET!

That 100w /W cleartop is the holy grail! Especially with that style of package, which I've never seen before. The high-output white colour is my favourite of all the mercury phosphor types. And cleartop BT-25's always look boss.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 15, 2012 at 02:17 AM]
Yeah, does the white color produce more visible light that a clear or /DX. /C. or clear bulb? I think cleartop 175w would be even cooler personally

Great finds Vince!! Cool
TiCoune66   [Apr 15, 2012 at 11:28 PM]
Thanks guys! ^__^

GEsoftwhite100watts: The /W phosphor (or Hi-Output White) has the same efficiency as Deluxe White (/DX). But the colour is more of a bluish-white, with a colour rendering being somewhere between /C and clear lamps.

Interesting, Vince. Can you do a color comparison pic between /DX, /C, and/W please? I am vaguely familiar with /DX, (have seen them in use "in the wild", (slightly pinkish light), but have never seen a /C or/W lit up. Thanks!

Nice lamp, cant get any better than this
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 16, 2012 at 01:49 AM]
Vince, have you lit this particular specimen up yet?
TiCoune66   [Apr 16, 2012 at 02:24 AM]
I did, beautiful when lit! I don't have any 100W /C lamp yet, but I can compare /DX and /W at the same time!
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 16, 2012 at 02:27 AM]
Please do! Would a 175w /C work?
CrazyLamp   [Apr 16, 2012 at 03:00 AM]
it would work but it will be under drivin at least to test fire. I got a dud C lamp on ebay. but i got a refund.
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Apr 16, 2012 at 03:06 AM]
I mean 2 100w lamps and 1 175w lamp on their proper ballasts.
LilCinnamon   [Apr 16, 2012 at 04:46 PM]
I tried to get one of these lamps on ebay but someone bidded an outrageous amount for it! Like the starting bid was like one cent, and this person seemed to bid like 20 dollars on it for the first one! What the heck?? I am not going to pay 27 dollars for a lamp. No point to it. I don't have the money so I guess the guy with lots of money can have it. Ugh. I hate that.
GullWhiz   [Apr 16, 2012 at 06:19 PM]
A great find!!!

BUT! There are even better MV lamps which are even better which I don't even have!

Try catching a /X mercury vapor lamp.....I don't even own one! I have some /W both used and NOS as for the /C and mostly /DX....

But try to get your hands on an /X and /Y!!!
A_lights   [Oct 10, 2012 at 09:49 PM]
wow cool! didn't know they made a daylight colored MV lamp! i did know they made a soft white 3,500K and i have one
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Oct 11, 2012 at 02:24 AM]
