I bet this is gonna be very dim.

It would have made a bit more sense to take out the old ballast. Rolling Eyes A lot of contractors are greedy and cheep. Confused Rolling Eyes
gailgrove   [Oct 01, 2011 at 01:09 AM]
Well if they where greedy they would of taken the ballast and scrap it, this is just lazy - they didn't even attach the new driver.

At least this was done to a crappy shoebox and not a classic cobrahead, though i'd rather this happen to a vintage streetlight intead of it getting scrapped, that is if it's done right. Neutral

At least the old ballast is still there though! It can always be converted back!
streetlight98   [Sep 07, 2014 at 12:58 AM]
did you see how short those leads are cut? Shocked

Solder! Or crimps if it's stranded wire! Or something! It could be done...
streetlight98   [Sep 07, 2014 at 02:09 AM]
How do you know which is which when they're not colored? it doesn't look like the words are visible. 150W HPS ballasts are common enough where a new one can just be stuck in though.

Unless you're cheap and greedy! Laughing Or just of the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" variety which explains me... Laughing That's why I have partially-dead ballasts wired in bizarre ways...
streetlight98   [Sep 07, 2014 at 03:44 AM]
I practice the recycle part, by giving it to my grandpa to scrap. Razz
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Sep 07, 2014 at 03:47 AM]
Same idea!
rlshieldjr   [Sep 08, 2014 at 03:36 AM]
I save and recycle scrap ballasts and fixtures, along with bottles and cans that has a recycle deposit. The old HPS ballast was too difficult to remove, so the left it, time is money. Neutral
streetlight98   [Sep 08, 2014 at 10:25 AM]
yeah if the fixture ever gets removed it'll be scrapped anyways so it's no big deal. did you perform the retrofit or did you have to service this?
